Whippet x Jagdterrier
It's been a great two years with Diesel but I've decided to sell him. He's a great dog, he hunts up his own game, is fast on track, loves to fight, will tree just a little bit, is good with other dogs, and is very smart and easy to train.
I've decided that living in Northern Wi. (deep snow in the winter) and him not being a bang up tree dog are just two things that together are not enough for the kind of hunting I do. In addition, when the snow gets to be 2' deep, it takes away his greatest advantage (speed). He's got a supremely great attitude and will make someone a dog of a lifetime if they hunt hard and use him to his full potential.
Diesel was the pick male of his litter. He's about 19" @ 27# and is as hard as a rock. He's not in top condition but is in good condition and will be ready to hunt from day 1. He responds to whistles and voice commands and will load, come, and sis to game. You can point your finger in a track and he will work it. He will hunt off of a truck, 4 wheeler, bike or walk hunt. When walk hunting you can free cast him or hunt him off of a slip lead, he'll handle both well. He hunts out of a canoe but I've only done this with him around a half dozen times so he could use a little more experience with it in order to learn more about staying on the center line of the canoe so you don't tip over in white water. He's a natural water dog and has some experience with retrieving ducks but only two trips worth so I won't claim he's entirely useful for that...yet.
Diesel is happy, healthy and tough. He's been around kids his whole life and is good with them or any human for that matter. He is a male and is wound fairly tight so I wouldn't trust kenneling him with another male or feeding him with another male, as is the norm with most terrier-type dogs.
Diesel is out of a good Jagdterrier male and a race/coursing bred whippet female. On the whippet side it's mostly Vitesse, Oochigia...arguably some of the fastest whippets in history. I had him at a dog sports festival with the kids last Spring and was able to put a radar gun on him and he clocked 32 m.p.h. in only 30 yards. He'll go faster than that but might need a few more yards than 30 to accelerate to his top speed. True to his whippet heritage, he's a very quick dog that can turn on a dime.
