UKC Introduces Cur & Feist Programs Advocates Joe Newlin and Allen Rosenbarger

Congrats guys!!!
I've personally known and have hunted with Joe several times, with hounds and curs. He knows the in's and out's of tree dog's and competition hunting. Joe is a "hunter" and a "thinker", this combination has made him successful in competition hunting and as a breeder! I'm sure this will be a success, Joe doesn't settle for subpar in anything he's involved with!!!

Folks I would like to express my gratitude to UKC for this opportunity, and my excitement at the possibility of helping UKC build this program.
From my seat here, there is a lot of low hanging fruit that can be harvested quickly, then we will work on the stuff up higher in the tree..... But without the help of everyone, we won't get much picked at all!
So, to kick start this conversation, I would like to hear from anyone, and everyone that has an interest in this program. My goal is to be as available as I can possibly be to cur owners to understand your thoughts on how we, and I do mean we, can grow the Cur and Fiest Program.
Let's come together and get this thing done!

From what I see right now, it is the feist hunters that are participating in UKC. My club just started having UKC cur/feist hunts, we have only brought in a total of 2 curs in both of those hunts.

Let me know if there is anything I can help you with, I hunt feist but I still want to see more cur guys getting involved.
Growth is king!
I just did a quick check, and there were a grand total of 2 club hunts scheduled for the month of November in the whole country!
There are four in December and ONE in January.....
Step #1 is to grow the program, so we are going to need some suggestions on how we can get more clubs to hold hunts, and to build the attendance at the hunts that are scheduled...!!!!!
Along those lines, lets start a conversation about how a club can be successful at holding cur and feist hunts!

Joe you had a majority of folks on FaceBook give you suggestions that were pretty much in agreement with the same thing yet you didn't seem to think there was much chance of that going over.
With two "new" registries having as much participation as they do wouldn't you think that if a registry was looking for things that would increase participation they would at least listen to folks that were suggesting ideas that were being implemented in these registries that were drawing the larger numbers?

UKC does have a longstanding hound program and bringing that up has been a tradition of the cur and feist representatives over the years. It has really not done much but drive more of a wedge between the UKC and the cur and feist people. And the appearance of farther isolating the curs more by separating them and the feist isn't helping any. There already is a whole generation of guys that aren't high on the UKC to start with because of past issues on the UKCs views of curs and it really doesn't seem that they have changed all that much.
As for the guys that hasn't hunted many UKC hunts in the past except the World Hunt the consensus there is they would hunt more if the hunts were elimination type hunts. Most aren't wanting to drive 4-5 or 8 hours for a one and done hunt. They prefer the full elimination hunts but many will still hunt the semi-elimination hunts.
