I'm going to up the feed on this dog to see if that helps, he acts healthy just under weight!

Some dogs have a natural light ideal weight and if you can put on a little weight it will just come right back off really fast

Tom

Try adding some cream and eggs to his feed. Some dogs just have a higher metabolic rate and will not get fat no matter the feed. Dog could have a thyroid problem, overactive thyroid can cause or make gaining weight impossible. Dave

Putting weight on

I always had luck with feeding a high fat dry dog food and adding a can of Mackerel 2X a week for about a month.

Good Luck

Tim

Tim is correct on this. The mackerel will add it on. I always did a half can morning and night every other day. Works good!!

If you’re just looking to add weight, cook up some pasta (macaroni or shells) and mix a couple of cups of that with his dog food. That will put weight on quickly. How ever, if you’re hunting the dog hard that won’t do the job.

If you’re hunting him hare you likely need to be feeding a higher grade of dog food. Purina Pro Plan was always a good one when I was hunting 4-6 nights a week. There are a number of really good foods out there but your going to pay more for them.

Don't marathon runners eat pasta? A coon dog seldom goes 26 miles in a night.
