Rock and I went out for a short hunt tonight!

Well tonight I decided to take Rock out alone and make a drop or two. Well I went over by a friend of mines house and thought I'd make a drop. Figured I might get lucky and get one treed in the trees out behind his place but I wasn't lucky enough Rock hunted it out and we never got a bark. I told my wife I was only going to make a short hunt then come home. Well you all know how that goes, since Rock didn't get after one I figured I'd make another drop. Well needless to say the next drop wasn't a quick one or a easy one. Rock was gone about 15 minutes when he struck a rough old track and after about and Hour and 25 minutes he treed on a den tree. I figured this was going to be a den, he had tapped several trees so I knew we was after a Boar Coon they are rutting right now so I kinda knew what was going to happen in fact I stayed at the truck and drove along the creek and he went over 3/4 of a mile on this track. This is the time of year where dogs have to get down and work and I like to work them alone on these kinda tracks I think they learn alot. Its easy for young dogs to grap a tree where the coon went up and then came down and left and alot of the time young dogs will get to trying to beat each other and tree to quick and by hunting one alone it keeps that from happing. I sure liked what Rock showed me tonight hes going to make a real nice dog! He's very accurate and likes to make sure he has the coon when he sets the Brake!!!

Rock on a Big Den!!!

Thanks Zach, I hope to have him with us when we come up to Leopard Days but it all depends on my Daughter having her twin boys!

He sure is a pretty dog. I can relate to those late season hunts . I like it best of all cause then you can really see what kind of dog you have . Sounds like ol Rock has what it takes. Hope he ends up being every thing you want. I agree i like my dog to take his time and make sure before he settles in on the tree.

Thanks everyone, I sure think he will turn into one of those dogs you love to take to the woods! Michael, I think with the way Rocks bred he will give me a great blend of different lines. I can't wait to cross him on my Ann female! Oh by the way for the folks wondering about Preacher he is doing fine and just a heads up neither Rock or Preacher are for sale. I truly think by next fall they will both be something real special.

Sounds like a good hunt! The late season hunts really show you what a dog can do when they get on a long running boar. Rock sure does look good!!!
