average speed...

Just curious to hear of different dogs average hunting speed...according to your garmin.

Checked mine the other night and they were a little over 5 miles an hour. Don't know if the trees matter but they treed twice so weren't moving for part of the time.

speed

Well ... I don't know it all ,but averageing 5 mph or more seems pretty good to me...for track speed..I'm sure their are faster ,and slower . I just wanted something to compare to...thank you.

All things considered..weather..age ...breed...just wanted different peoples input..for an average...thanks

I wasnt saying through the dark sir, I was just saying AVERAGE, and just like Kevin said, I'm not sure if their tree effects anything or not and like i said, there are many factors in each night, just cuz they were an average of 5 mph one night doesnt mean they are always that way. I was just pointing out that a person can almost walk that fast.

and Kevin is from Montana, which has some wicked hills, so 5mph might be phenomenal over there, compaired to my flat country where you need something faster

affects the average for sure,, ive watched garmin average speed and then left him treed a bit before going to him and it comes down the longer hes treed,, till coons found ,pictures taken it really starts choppin it down,, so 5mph almost anywhere would be pritty good considering he hit a track in short order

yep

so then his dog EASILY could've ran a track at 6/7/8 or more, depending on how long he let him tree.
for sure or i bet its a lot faster than that but would have to reset garmin right when he hit track to know for sure

a hound that has the coon a high percent of the time over those that are "so fast" they beat the coon to the tree a high percent of the time.

You give me a hound that is steady, and I don't care if you are talking treeing coon, cats, bears or running coyotes----a steady hound will always show you more game than those that are so fast they make a lost or over run the track. A steady hound will get under their game and when the time is right, run to catch and that's when "they'll turn out the lights."
