Important Notice For Breed Associations

I think there has been some confusion regarding when the Chartered Breed Associations will need to notify UKC whether they wish to be open or closed for entry of qualified X-Bred dogs. In an effort for the Associations to gather as much input as possible from members / directors, etc. we will not require official notification until after the UKC Winter Classic. This will give the Associations the Grand American and Winter Classic to discuss the matter. Additionally, UKC will have staff at both those events to assist with any questions that may come up.

What will be the criteria for "qualified" dogs be? If a Breed Association chooses to be closed or open, can they change their mind at a later date?

Will dogs that are currently single registered be "grandfathered" in to their breed or will they be re-registered as Cross Breds?

Qualification would mean that the X-Bred dog in question meets the 80% purebred requirement and also meets the breed standard.

Breed Associations will notify UKC each year whether they wish to be open or closed. So yes, in alternating years they could be open or closed. I would assume once we are notified that the decision will be in place for one full year.

Dogs that are currently single registered were done so as purebreds and are already "into the breed". They are done. Will not change.

Todd, who do I need to notify on weather it will be closed or open? Is that you or someone with the registration department?

Thanks
Ralph

Yes....technically that information will be organized by the single registration coordinator in the Registration Department. Her name is Andrea Hunderman and she can be reached at AHunderman@ukcdogs.com But it's not a problem if anyone doesn't remember that and simply sends it to my attention. I will make sure that it gets where it needs to go.

Has there been an answer from any of the Breed Assoc. if they will be closed or open for 2015.

It will be closed for the B & T Association for 2015. The general membership will vote on it at B & T Days this year for 2016.

Has the Plott Assoc. or the Redbone Assoc. come to a decision yet?
