What's your opinion ????

This should be interesting.
PETE I have heard from you, and I ask you wait to answer, so as not to lead anyone !!!

Do bear leave puck piles?
Do bear make a hooting sound around June?

Many people have viewed this, but no one seems to want to answer. I have been discussing this with Pete for about two weeks now and can't seem to make Pete change his mind LOL. I figured I would get a response form some of you that have been in bear hunting for a while.

I have come to the conclusion that Pete is right. How about that Pete I can learn, I'm just slow, like my hounds.

Around here , we can't have dogs in the woods from April 15th through July 15th , so I wouldn't lnow. I'm usually out on a lake fishing then. LOL
Tell us what you think?

ive heard bear make noise but never heard one hoot--all i ever heard hoot was owls -

when u see a pile or puddle of corn or apples or berries - good chance it came from back end of a bear --- i cant guarantee that they never puke but i never seen any evidence that they did --

and when somebody tells me the size of bear they just saw------i divide it by at least 2 --- lol

After hunting all these years , I had never heard of a " puck pile " an was too chicken to ask what it was. It didn't even dawn on me that he meant puke ! LOL ( so , I'm a dork ! )

And , you mean to tell me that you guys don't have 500 lb sows with 250 lb cubs? LOL

I was thinking the same thing. I thought maybe some Canadian bears had learned how to play hockey eh. LOL But I didn't want to ask.

The reason I hunt this bloodlines is a quote an old friend gave me,"Your either making dust or your eating it."

Posted by mjflores on 09-04-2007 01:51 PM:

I've been woofed at by a bear...he was fond of the feed bucket he was munching on..and decided I shouldn't be there. That's only happened once...The only hooting I've ever heard was made by owls. I've heard the strangest sounds come from owls, growling, burping, etc. Once I had 3 owls around me going nuts and I swear to you it sounded like I was in the amazon! It was funny. Recently I heard a porcupine screaming and squealing..and I mean loud. That was a new one...my "almost broke" dog couldn't resist a couple nice sniffs of the old boy and he was telling him to keep away. My dog never got a quill that night..he just couldn't resist stopping to smell the roses. Perhaps I'm making progress? The last time he was quilled he got a very stern talking too..he got a speaking to for just sniffing also, although I was happy he didn't bite.
I've seen where coyotes had puked up grass and nuts after gorging themselves on deer entrails, so maybe if a bear went to town on too much corn they might puke it up. I've come close while eating to much grilled sweet corn at summer bar-b-q's. I'd say it's pretty rare, and probably wouldn't stumble on it everyday. Usually if a wild animal pukes up something edible they lap it right back up...ever see your dog do that?
I think I'd take what Pete said as fact, he's knows his stuff. By the way, that bear that woofed at me at my feed bucket, I didn't see it but I'd say it was at least 800 lbs lol.

Don't mean to get off the subject but I have always bear baited with cookies, granola, breads, and different pastries and the bear have always ate it up, but this year my Dad planted 4 acres of sweetcorn and at the end of every day whatever people never bought we just fed to the hogs, so I shucked a couple buckets of left over and put it on a few bear baits that where getting smashed and the bear would not touch it. I've had corn laying at some of them baits for almost two weeks and they still haven't ate it. Any thoughts on why? They clean everything else up every night.

Thats strange. Around here everyone who grows corn has coon and bear damage. Last Sat night I saw a bear on the backside of a sweet corn field, it's already been harvested but there are still ears laying everywhere. Maybe they prefer the other bait over the corn? I would think if your bait were to dry up they'd turn to the corn. Maybe it's something they need to be taught by moma bear? I know if you dumped a pile of sweet corn in the woods around here...the coon, bear, porcupine, squrrels, turkeys, etc. would eat it right up. In NH, everything eats up corn.

Posted by Budd Denny on 09-04-2007 03:08 PM:

I don't really think these bear around here know what corn is. Closest cornfield to me is 150 miles away!!

See a lot of bear crap around my bear baits but no puke piles.

Pete... if I say anything about a bear if I live after seeing it divide by ten!LOL... Mike F. came to pick up his pup at my house last night, Nice to meet him... heard you have a mighty fine dog related to his. Right now I"m bleary eyed so I forget which one he's talking about...LOL... I think its'a Walker and I think I've seen pix of it... You know Bob and I are going to go up to NH to hunt with Mike at some point soon... so can you all please play make believe for me and tell me there are No Bears in NH.... LOL.....

Have a good day and I'm thrilled to read about bear puke! lol... we get Yote puke here... No question they barf up a meal or two when they get into too many apples in the local orchards.
HappyHunting! Heather

Sorry for the confusion. Just remember people who run hounds are not considered to be overly intellegent.LOL My spell check wouldn't pick up that mistake.

Wasn't picking on your spelling. I was slamming myself for not picking up on what you meant. LOL
