Anyone else have any of Ol Beckham's books?
I guess I just always assumed most who read Mr. Beckham's articles back in the day also knew he had wrote a few books full of his short stories. These are among some of our cherished possessions so full of history and lots of hunting stories from a more innocent time. I have Ozark Night Call, Uncrowned Champions and Ozark Memories. I've been re-reading them myself by reading to the grandkids when they stay the night. I think Cheyenne looks forward to story time as much as they do!

Back about 1990 I went on tour and stopped in on O.L. At that time I had a lot more hair and wore it similiar to Richard and O.L. was a little leary of me. However he took the time to show me some of his dogs and told me he had a lot more at a different place. Before I left him and his daughter Rose performed some "magic" tricks for me. I don't have any of his books but did enjoy the visit.
I don't have any of his books, but years ago when my Full Cry came in I would go to the middle page first.

I love these old stories, always have, they take me back in a time I truly treasure. Now that I know Chey was a part of all this, I am really interested in getting Cheyenne to write a book or at least publish some of his memories in dealing with O L. I know these would be a blessing to us old timers. Dave

I used to love reading his stories in Full Cry. Still have a box full from the 90s when I was a teen. Would love to find his books.

I am very afraid that we are losing these amazing stories and the history that goes with these stories, Folks today are flooded with so many things going on in their lives that they do not value the past and reading is something that gets put on the back burner. I have always loved the stories that our older folks would tell us. I listened for hours and still treasure these memories. Now, I sm part of the old folks and realize just how important it is to pass this history on to a new generation in books they may someday read. I love hearing how Cheyenne operated as a young boy, it gladdens my heart to hear of his exploits as a mere boy. I can guarantee that Cheyenne would not take any amount of money for his experiences as a boy. PLEASE get him to tell you these stories so that you may put pen and pencil to them so we ALL can share. Just the thought puts a big old smile on my face. Dave

I love your stories you tell when you were a kid hunting with your dog pack. You have a gift of story telling that puts the reader in your shoes. We may have to get someone to put a series of stories from you and others that preserves our history. I have been listening to interviews of the King of poachers, a man who hunted or poached on the Kenedy Ranch. The stories are amazing, but the history is beyond anything you could read in a history book. Google Prince of poachers to listen to his stories. Dave

I had ozark memories and uncrowned champions.I loaned them out several times and lost the ozark memories book. The uncrowned champion book is all there but the front cover and i can't find it.It has been read so much it would help to tape the back to keep it from coming apart.OK for now but with a lot of use it might need it.Had it since i guess the 70s but i don't mind letting anyone have it.I have enjoyed it many times.
Growing up the way Chey did teaches one to appreciate even the simple things in life. So many of todays children don't appreciate anything or have any respect for anyone because they've been handed everything and have never had any discipline. Time out doesn't count as discipline in my opinion. It's hard to teach a rich kid to appreciate the value of a dollar. Us seniors understand this better than the liberal crap that is being to our kids today.
Jennifer I really don't remember the magic tricks O.L. did but I do remember some were real simple and a couple were real good. Looked to me like he did what he had to do to survive and was pretty good at it.
Stories
There are several men on this forum that I would love to hear some of their stories. Cheyenne, Richard Lambert, Rueben, Yadkinriver, and several others. I smile just thinking about the REAL History these men could share. Not only could we get their experiences, we would get the experiences of the men/women that came before them, the experiences that were shared with them. Dave

Stories
I have recently been listening to interviews of a long time deer poacher that wrote a book titled "Before the stories are lost". I hope that we get some of our members to put pen and ink to some of their stories and history that will be lost if not recorded. It may seem to be old hat to those involved, but it will be priceless to many who love these stories and the history associated with these stories. Breeding a certain bloodline and the credit that goes to certain folks are just one of the items that would be great to hear about. Hunting dogs as a mere child and having a seasoned hunter buy those dogs or sell them to seasoned hunters is amazing to me. Lots of stories these men could tell will be LOST if we do not get them recorded or written. PLEASE do not let these stories be forgotten, they are much to valuable. Dave

I ran across the post while trying to find some OL Beckham books. I met OL at Kenton Ohio coon dog trials. Now that was an annual event that the thoughts bring fond memories. OL shared some magic tricks. He told a story or 2 and over a few years I traded dogs with him a couple times. I remember him fondly. The old trade days are gone along with OL and many others like him. My grand kids will never know those experiences. Makes me sad. Closest I have found to those old trade days is Grand American down in Orangeburg S.C. I attended and hunted in it maybe 15 years ago. I hope it is still the same? Big old wood buildings on the fairgrounds for vendors, dog traders and tons of coon-bear and hog dogs. The kids sliding on a big grass hill with cardboard. They were having a time!! I am trying to figure a way to take a few of my young grandsons to attend. Does anyone know if The Grand American is still like it was back in the early 2000’s??? I sure hope so! Has any of the gentlemen in this post put their memories in ink?? I sure hope so. Thanks Perry
