That is for sure i have a female that was hit pretty good last year and i have a infection coming back a vet in montana cut her open and cleaned it up but she was 2 weeks along with pups so he couldnt go as deep as he wanted. He charged 70. These vets want 600 to 1200. I went to two vets and they both had two different opions. The one wanted to tell me this is what happens when us hound hunters doctor our dogs. 10 years of doctoring myself and this is the first time i had this happen.
Hopefully she rebounds for ya! We have some of the same issues here! Alot of them think they should all be on the couch next to the TV. We also do as much as we can ourselves, but need there meds to make it happen.....Them charge'n rediculous prices is turn'n alot of folks away.....Good luck with her!

I live in Keyser WV and I recently had one of my top dogs that we had been treating for a nail bed infection with the vet here in town. A month and $800 later the infection still had not cleared up. I requested that the vet remove his toenail. When I picked up the dog that evening after the procedure, I was shocked to see that they had amputated his whole toe and butchered half of his foot. Needless to say, I was IRRATE! When I voiced my complaint the vet informed me that they had not even read the form I had filled out that morning telling them the procedure that was to be performed. (Just to make things clear, there was no bone infection or any other reason for the toe to have been amputated.) I got a copy of the form and immediatley took the dog to another vet where he had to undergo a two hour surgery to try and repair the damage they had done. This second vet was digusted with the situation and advised me to contact the State Veterinary Board and get a lawyer to make sure that the original vet would be held responsible. We are hopeful that the dog with recover and be able to hunt but there is no gaurantee. I have to wonder if this wasnt the vets way to insure that this dog would not be hunted again. They always make remarks and give us dirty looks when they find out our dogs are run on bear. Just makes you think.
Their prices are ridiculous.
If only it had come back on her 2 weeks earlier, we could have had it taken care of for you and for a whole lot less. Our vet is awesome!! There are vets out here that charge an arm and a leg for stuff, but there are plenty good ole' boy vets that are very good with reasonable fees.

make the trip up to alanson and go to colin thorpe of maple river animal clinic, she is one of the two best vets i;ve ever been to. i don't understand why they would charge you that much for an infection, she probably just has some dirt, grass , or debris. shes not cheap but i can just about bet it will be at least half of the price. good luck with your dog
the first vet give me the break down why it would cost so much he was going to charge me 142 dollars to brush her teeth and 84 to take x rays and he told me to my face he didnt need to take any then 160 to send the infected site out to get tested which we already knew what it was. Then he wanted 125 just do blood work. He told me we shouldnt have to do that . The surgery was only 150 he said she would have to stay the night another 85. The next vet wants to cut her from the point of her shoulder to her hip 4 to 6 inches wide hide and tissue that he feels is infected. I will let u know what happens my wife and i are going to do this ourselves. We have done alot of work on our horses and we have a freind that is a doctor.

RAY Bred Blues
Vets are different like us. I went to a vet cause my regular vet was deer hunting that week end, with a 3 month old cur pup I had bred to use on squirrels that got struck by a horse and broke her hip in the joint. She did an exray and said that she couldn't fix it and refered me to a specialist about 60 miles away. I got a $4,500 estmate plus a $300 bill from her I had to pay before she would give me my dog back. I waited till Monday when my vet got back. He did not do an exray, he did not want to cut it's leg off yet. He said, in that many days a pup like that was already starting to callouse and would probably be able to get around pretty good . That I might notice it after a half day of solid hunting she might favor it some the rest of her life. He gave me three pain pills and told me to give her one if she asked for one, which I thought strange. The first vet has this followup thing , which is professional enough I recon, and she called and asked If I had made an apointment with the specialist. I told her I had decided to see how it worked out. She queeried, "did you seek a second opinion?" I said yes, and she got I rate. She said I bet He didn't even give you any pain pills. I said Oh Yes he did, "I think I'll go take one now".
$4,800 on a cur pup??? GET Real !!!
LOL
They can be as different as night & day, that is for sure!
