Big Country

I know that the sire is just part of the equation but wondering what traits are showing up in his pups. Mouth hunt etc.

I have 2 17 months old out of Big Country and my Nt. Ch. female. They both went hunting and ran with old dogs the first time out. They both go hunting alone and both can move a track better than average. Where they fall short is treeing. Both have treed coons alone, but they're not the kind of tree dogs I like yet. Both have improved plenty in the last 2 months. They both tree better on older tracks. If it's red hot they have trouble calming down. High drive and plenty energy.

He got real big real fast and almost over night it seems like u never hear about him anymore he’s thrown some nice dogs but unfortunately like a lot of others I think he was a way better coondog then reproducer

I believe Country is holding his own in the reproducing arena. His numbers will only continue to climb.

All too often they don't have a great desire to hunt or be real coone. They are big and beautiful in most cases. Like any dog that has been bred plenty there is plenty of good and bad ones.

This was not to trash Big Country. I simply asked what traits he was throwing. Thanks for your info.

I feel like I need to explain better. My Big Country pups aren't getting the type of training I would like. As far as drive, going hunting, and running a track, they're better than most pups I've raised, even the Walkers I hunted for 50 years. I'm 80 years and doing the best I can. I'm down to having only one 400 acre patch of woods without driving for 2 hours. The coons are thin where I'm hunting and I've only shot out two to each dog so far. I think they would show more enthusiasm at the tree if I shot a couple a week to each one of them. They both look as good as any bluetick I've seen and both have better-than-average mouths

Possibly all of them, but if they were all sired by the same Walker everyone would be saying what a great stud dog he is. LOL

If he was a walker with a 6% reproduction rate no one would even look at him.

Lol. I doubt that.

I just looked at the July issue of PH. I know the top two money winners on the list are Blueticks. Anyway it does not matter if they are x-breed or not he still has to do his part of the reproducing.
I do not own a dog out of BC nor have any connection with him. He is throwing some winners if not he would not be the top dog on this list below over some very good reproducing dogs.

There are three Walkers on the list at 6% with 423 pups. Somebody's looking at them.

The two top money winners were from a litter out of my Fancy female. There was another one that was winning in both registries that was killed by a rattlesnake at a young age and one ran over. I have a litter ate that hasn’t been pushed in PKC “yet” but he did place in the top 24 of the TOC. Several more out of the litter are COONDOGS but not getting put in the hunts. If Fancy hadn’t of passed away she would have went right back to Big Country.
To answer the original question mine did start a little later than others but I worry more about how they finish than how they start.

Jeremy, sure sounds like that was a heck of a cross, perfect blend of genetics in that cross. Hate to hear Fancy passed away, we need dogs like her real bad. Dave
