Bear Down
Ran down this nice boar for a client last week and figured I'd see whether I still know how to post a photo on this website. I found this boar's tracks on a Friday and we went back the following Monday and got lucky. Guess I have written the rest of bear season off so I'm gonna go hunting..........
You can see the dead bear over on my webpage if you're interested.....

Nice big bear Dennis. What did he weigh?

Don't know Josh, but guessed him at over 300 pounds, probably eight to twelve years old and 19 1/2" +/- score. He fought my dogs under the first tree and would not climb, then decided to run after we arrived. The second tree was larger diameter and again, he was at the base of the tree chasing dogs off him when we arrived.
I walked my two five month old pups into the bayup and neither of those two dogs has been fired. I'll bet they wondered, "what in the hell is this" when they got tot he bear fight. I ran them down a bear track Sunday and they went about 3.5 miles until the track splashed out onto the road. I helped the dogs find when the bear left and got them started again, one pup just went to the creek bottom and came back and the other went off up the hill and came back in about a half hour, and I'm glad he did cause I pulled those dogs ten miles later in the heat of the day going into roadless country. Guess I'm getting weak hearted (or weak kneed) cause if those dogs haven't jumped the bear in thirteen miles and five hours of cold trailing, and it's hot and dry like it is, I don't care to continue..............glad I don't live further south!

Speaking of smoke there is plenty in the air right now with two fires going here in the Basin. It was bad enough in town tonight I didn't take my evening walk, as I gotta save those lungs ha!

I used to do a lot of huntin' and fishin' in your neck of woods.I lived in S.L.C.,but spent as much of my spare time as possible in the Duchesne area.I used to fish the Strawberry River downstream from Soldier Creek Dam.Seen quite a few bears in that area. Also used to go up Timber Canyon quite a bit into Ashley N.F. I'd sure as hell would like to retire there someday. It's a beautiful area.Of all the places I've been in my life, that area is as close to God's country as I've ever seen.Great pics as well.Keep 'em comin'.

Thanks for the comments Rob, and I'll agree that much of the country that I hunt is God's country. I've put boot tracks all over northeastern Utah not counting other places in the West, and home is pretty good..........
If you've fished and hunted the Strawberry River then you might recognize the ledges where I took this photo. This image has been used in a number of magazines, and is one of the photos that always takes me back to the Strawberry River, on a cold February day in 1996. This image was also utilize on the cover of Full Cry back in the day.
Keep'em treed,
Ike

Dennis,
I tried to send a reply on here last night to tell you a very interesting story you woulda got a kick out of,but I guess I got a litttle long-winded tellin' it.By the time I got done typin' it,I tried to send it to ya but by the time I clicked the send button,it popped up and said I wasn't logged in.Guess you only get a limited amount of time.I'll try to type it again sometime today in a PM.Hopefully it'll work.It was a story 'bout one of the best days I ever had on the Strawberry River.A story about the best day of fishin'I ever had and an encounter with some bear hunters. For all I know,it may have been you.

P.S.----the ledges look real familiar Dennis.Never got to see any pussy cat like that on one though.Maybe someday.Boy ol' boy,do I miss the summers in Utah.I just got up at 6a.m.,poured myself a cup of coffee and let my 2 Jack Russell's out back.Already 84 degrees and the humidity is so thick you can cut it with a butter knife.Supposed to hit 100 here today.Factor in the humidity--110.
