No fear leopards?

The first time I researched leopards one of the breed standards was no fear. I want one can anyone say hands down they have it? The first two leopards I had were no fear style. I tried for years to find out where they came from but with a few guys passing away it was a dead end. Sorry brains don't make up for grit in my style.

Richard Bailey has a female from Randy Oller that is doing well on bear. I would have a close look at her. In fact, I mean to. I'm going to try and hook up with him next July and watch her go.

A bunch of the dogs out of Doc (Ganus' Hoosier Seabiscuit) were very gritty. I had one of the Jug x Susie males named Banjo and he was a no fear dog. He was a littermate to Minten's Gabby. I don't think that Gabby threw that trait to any high degree but you have to breed to the dogs that display it to pass it on with any consistency. Banjo was one hard son of a gun.

That Harvey dog was very hard but he jacked on bear after a while. That happens a lot to dogs when they get to bear way ahead of other dogs.

Dottie was vicious on game after she matured but was a pansy when she was under three years old. Copper was med. hard until he was four and now he's a wrecking crew on coon and cats.

The hard ones come at a rate of about 1/5 in the Jug x Susie line but no one has selected for it. If they did it would go up fast.

The Scout bred dogs have a way higher percentage of hard dogs and made some nice crosses the few times I did it.

Had one from Ricky Love that had absolutely no fear. Had one Jug bred dog that didn't like a scrape with a hog and I heard he would quit a bad bear.

No fear

On bears I'd be surprised if there is such a thing as a no fear leopard. Maybe I'm just unlucky but I've tried a lot of leopards from different strains including a Mike Toth pup and one from Randy Oller. The toughest one I have seen is Huck that I purchased from Dan Mitten. The rest were lucky if they were gritty enough to even bay a bayed bear let alone actually put teeth on it. Sure they will look tuff on a cat or coon but a bear is another story entirely!

Muleup that has been my findings as well

WVA dogs are the most level headed and grittiest. But they still have the game savvy to not get cut as much as curs or Plotts or straight hounds like English or Walker.

I see Scout bred dogs was mentioned. What is Scout out of? I am always looking to have better dogs and would like to see Scout's pedigree if possible.

Lots of dogs getting mentioned that I know nothing about. I sold my dogs when I moved to Canada and for about 10/12 years I was out of the loop. Someone must be producing some good lines and I would really like to see some backgrounds on these dogs getting mentioned.

These were all no fear leopards and still breeding them today.

I'm quite proud that these dogs come from my place.
LD Meyers has done a good job with Scout.

Gritty Leopards

The Glade Creek, Little Mountain dogs crossed with the Dutchman Creek strain have the most grit I have ever hunted. I have an 18 months old female here that is out of my Jazz female that will ride on a bears back. Her mother can tree bear by herself. I have hunted all Leopards for 22 years and I don't feed a dog that won't pressure a bear.

I have a little female over here from Wayne (Lizard Ridge) that is starting to roll. She's a tough little dog!

Gritty Leopards

Dan, the female that I'm referring to is a littermate to your pup. I believe that she will make a top dog, only time will tell. The male I kept got killed by a car and he was better than the female at this point.

GCLC my pm box isn't working it said its full I check and there is no messages don't know what the problem is. Lizard ridge very interested in your dogs. Gritty Leopards

Muleup, I don't have or know of any available pups at this time. I hope my Jazz dog makes it through our upcoming bear season in December. if so I am going to breed her to a 3 year old Leopard spotted male that is out of Bandit's Littermate. She should come in heat around January to March time frame. I pray that she comes through the season okay as I want to keep a couple of these pups for myself.

Gritty Leopards

Machias, the best time to call me is after 7:00PM eastern standard time. I will probably be running dogs tonight so try tomorrow (Sunday) night. You don't live that far from me so come and go hunting and you can see for yourself. I wish Muleup lived closer then I could show him there actually are Leopards that can pressure a bear. I've got a 1 year old male puppy here that is out of my Bandit and Little Mountain Holly that a coon won't last a minute on the ground when he tackles it. Bandit is almost 9 years old and I would like to see him bred to some more females before it's too late. Anyone is welcome to come and see for themselves Jazz, her Littermate Bo and the 1 year old in action. All of these dogs were sired by Bandit.

Sorry Mr. Hensley, just saw your response, been deer hunting this week. I will give you a call and would love to come and do a hunt with you! Thanks!!

Grit

I tell ya what, this Snap pup is pretty darn gritty. Or maybe dumb is a better word lol! He hasn't quite figured out how to fight the head yet, and he will dang sure get himself ate up. He just barrels right in there time and time again. He just doesn't have much back down in him. He has already almost drown 3-4 times catching coon in the water. He swims right out and grabs ahold and down they go! Hopefully he gets things figured out soon! I'm tired of wading in to save his butt! On a side note he doesn't seem to swell up or get infected as bad as my other hounds. For example, I was hunting the other night and the dogs caught a big boar in the water. Poor Snap was tore up pretty good, bleeding heavily from his ears, nose, and tongue. The next morning two of my other dogs where all swelled up and took a couple days of antibiotics before they where ready to hunt again but Snap was just fine, I hunted him the next night. He was tore up way worse than the other two but just didn't seem to get infected or swell like they did. Anybody else ever noticed that with their own dogs?

Dave I'm gonna have to keep a eye on that and see what I find out since all of our dogs are pretty much the same. I haven't really witnessed it yet but from what I've seen outa snaps two brothers I've hunted and his sister i could see them being pretty gritty.

I don't know what the deal is with the Jug x Susie stuff. About 1/6 is wicked gritty and the rest are just so-so or softer. I don't mind a soft dog on bobcats but for most everything else I like a gritty, smart fighting ball of teeth. I have never selected for grit but it sure wouldn't hurt the dogs here if I did that for a few generations.

I think Queen is all in on a coon but according to Minten she comes out bloody more often than not.

I would rather have a dog just bay tight if it doesn't know how to fight well and keep its own damage to a minimum but they can't all be perfect.

I had a littermate to Siouxie, Gabby, and Cocoa named Banjo that was the hardest leoapard I've had but also knew how to fight. He was a one bite kill dog on nearly every coon he ever grabbed. He is the only dog I've seen that may have surpassed Rachel overall but he died at around two years old and just didn't have the time to get there. If there was one dog I could bring back he would be it, even if all I could do was hunt him for two more years.
