Plott guy question

Is there certain bloodlines that throw all black plotts more so than brindle? And what bloodlines out there now that’s putting mouth on they pups?

There's no shortage of black plotts available, I can't point to one particular bloodline these days that has mostly black dogs. Years ago it would be anything Howells Bayou Saber bred. As for plotts with a good mouth? I've been searching for the same thing and have found the poacher dogs have pretty good volume. I'm hunting a young dog now that has a decently loud mouth. I'm told that pocahontas bred dogs are known to have good mouths as well.

I remember back in 1978 going to a night hunt in Canaan,NH with a friend who had a Nt. Ch. walker dog.

We drew out with one other dog. It was a Nt. Ch. Plott named Purcells Gambit owned by Mickey Purcell out of Massachusetts.

These (2) dogs put on a good show. If I didn’t know it I’d have said we were running with a Bluetick or Black and Tan. The Gambit dog had a huge bawl mouth on track and a loud ringing chop on tree. There was no winner. We had a tied cast. Gambit had heck of a nose and knew what to do with it.

Mickey was a class act and I really enjoyed visiting with him. Our paths crossed a few more times over the years but I never got to hunt with Mickey or Gambit again. Gambit finished to Dual Gr Ch. a couple years later. I’d of owned that dog in a heart beat.
