how do you know...?

I realize I may get some crazy,nonsense replies,,but here goes..I have been at this for 2 yrs know..my male is now 2 also...he has really been doing good...hunted mostly alone,,except for maybe 8 or 10 timesi with other dogs...Tue night..he located at 760 yrds..treed at 1.2 ,with 2 coon above..took bout an hour to get to him..walking...no roads to drive closer...so ...ya..me and this dog have put some miles down..my question is...when is it time to enter him in a comp hunt...? And a couple weeks ago I hunted him with a grnitech,,and ntch...when we turned out ,he babbled for about 200 yrds..the settled in,and started hunting ...and treed be hind the other dogs.with the meat...I was told this babbleing was from not being hunted much with other dogs..should I hunt him more with other dogs first...or go ahead and enter him in a hunt..?

A little more info on my dog...the times he has been hunted with other dogs..when other dogs tree...he doesn't honor their tree..most trees have been slick..except when hunted a couple weeks ago..with a grnitech,and a ntch...he still didn't honor their tree..and ya..they had the coon..I'm still green,,as is my dog..I'm not sure if this is a good thing...maybe he should be hunted with other dogs..its just that the people that I occasionally hunt with are hours away..so..I hunt by myself 99% of the time...should I put more time on him..or put him in a hunt..?

the main reason to hold back a young dog from competition hunting is so the other dogs don't teach him bad habits or chew him up.
only you know how mature your dog is. Be realistic. Just make sure that you don't think he'll be ruined for good if another dog snaps at him at the tree--that happens in competition hunts more often than it should. Sometimes its best to try out a green dog at a small club where you know the players and withdraw him if there's a known mean dog in your cast.
The early babbling isn't a big problem as long as you warn the rest of the cast before you cut them.
As for not honoring the other dogs' tree, that's sometimes an advantage. If there are enough coon to find his own pretty quickly, and he settles down to the job, it shouldn't hold you back. If you're hunting where coon are thin, he maybe could use to be hunted with a trustworthy dog so he learns it may be worth honoring another.

Ya...I have decided to wait a little longer before putting him in any hunts...just to hunt him a couple more months...and yes ,,he does still have a lot of puppy in him....thank you for your response.
