New to the game
I've coon hunted all my life with pleasure hounds but first time going to try competition hunting I've got two pups what do I need to be working on with them now I've got them lead broke one three month's and the other is five month's
pups
I dont do anything with pups that young but what you r doing. teach the to load, lead, a few basic commands like come. And i would work on tone breakin them at 6 or 7 months old if u have a shock collar. I jus let them run around as much as possible till 8 months or so then show them a caged coon n start hunting them.

Thanks I've showed them a coon in the woods with my old hound the male pup seems very interested in it he gets mean when I shoot it out to him I know there ain't much I can do now but mess with them how old do people start putting them in the hunts
I have never put a dog in the hunts under 2 years old but all dogs r different. But u dont want to put em in the hunts to early u dont know wat kind of dogs other people have. Most r fine but u enter a young dog in a hunt wit an aggressive dog he could run him off the tree and ruin them. And i like to hunt them by themselves once they start treein coon until they r consistently doin well. It will help them lear to work on their own better

I appreciate it i don't know what I have yet but maybe they'll do something I just got to try it once in my life I've never even owned a registered hound the one I have is old mixed tree stock blood we've had for years now I know pleasure hunting is laid back I want to learn more before I just dump a dog in what's the best advice someone gave to you on it or you've learned on your own
The best advice i can give u is hunt a lot. As much as u can because the pups need hunted a lot if u want them to reach full potential and stay in good working shape. i use to hunt at least 4 or 5 nights a week and had some really nice hounds that made it fun and worth all the work. As ive got busier i havent been going but 1 or 2 times a week if im lucky and pups dont catch on as quick and the older dogs dont hunt as well.
