Broken femur recovery
I have a 10 week old pup that managed to break his back left femur and has to have surgery for repair. Doctors unsure if he can plate and screw it or put pins in place. Anyone have any experience with this injury. He’s going to have to be crate confined for a good while is my main concern keeping him calm and not re injuring his break. How did the whole recovery end up if so.

Broken Femur
My first dog had a broken femur as a 4 month old, and the hard part is keeping them quiet for weeks till it sets. After healing there was no problem and she hunted till 14 years old.Just be patient.

I don't have any good advice or experience, but sorry to hear about your pup, bud.
Thanks Trevor he’s a nice acting pup. Hopefully everything goes alright and he heals up good.

I had a male coonhound break a back leg at a year old and a mt curr female around 4 mths break a back leg.The males leg didnt heal exactly right and hed carry it some but he could use it and made a good coonhound. The females leg grew stunted and shed carry it up like she was 3 legged except when she wanted to run fast .And she could run fast.Made one of the best squirrel, coon dogs ive ever seen.So youll be lucky if it heals like nothing never happened.Thats been my experiece. My dogs breaks may have been worse than yours and yours being a pup maybe youll have better luck. Both of mine were broke bones around and below the knee .I guess you call it a knee.ha
I've hunted 2 dogs a few years apart for a buddy. Both dogs had broken femur early in life. Only time it really affected either dog is when you hunted them every night for long hours. Like 6+ hours a night for a few weeks. Otherwise you'd never know either dog had broken the leg. And by affecting the dog..... they'd still hunt and tree coons but they'd carry that leg a little here n there.
