Who.?

Who are some of the foremost authorities in this leopard breed? We need to pick some brains and learn some facts. Particularly in competition department.

Ive read thing after thing of Dan McDonoughs and sounds like old timer thats been around breed forever but some breeding practices and constant arguing worry me. No doubt emotions run high in every breed and being new to hound category makes it worse.

Is there anyone on here that has actually hunted with or been under a tree with Dan? Not bought, sold, traded or talked. Hunted with?

I would say John Wick will know just about as much as anyone. John is a good friend and will do anything and go out of his way to help. Hound or curs he is fair and knows his business.

I'm not sure why everyone is picking on Dan. "Breeding practices"= breed how YOU want. I've read his posts and he has his mind set on doing things his way. I think it would be frustrating to try to help people and always get someone going against you. Mr. Margorian always seems to be one of em. That's between them but REALLY. That crap don't help. I've never met Dan or even talked to him but I believe he knows his stuff when it comes to Leps. There are many others on here that probably know their stuff too. I'm not sure what questions you have but post them and weed through the BS. Maybe you will find your answer.

I have hunted with Dan.. Dan has bred a few females in years past to my male.. I have two stud fee pups from him here now.. One is a NT Champion Floyd River Queen and the other is Dual Grand Floyd River Sport.. I also had a sister to a Couple of Dan dogs, she also has produced one Grand Night and one Night Champion. That makes 2 NT Champions and 2 Grand NT Champions for Ganus Hoosier Blue Jug.. Dan does not comp. hunt but most his Dogs are bred very similar.. Dan very rarely breeds two merles together.. So if that is what your talking about being unethical.. I would rather take a pup out of a merle to merle cross any day out of top dogs than a merle to non merle if one of the dogs was not out of reproducers and already a made dog.. All three of theses females are on the top reproducers list or historical.. There all Ganus and Jug Bred.. Take a look at the reproducers list and see for your self.. Most of the dogs that have done any winning in the hunts go back to the same core breeders.. Not just close up but back a little ways too. Of course there is dogs that have done winning in other lines too. Just go check out the reproducers list and see for your self where they came from..

Four of the Historical reproducers are sisters.. Ganus' Floyd River Gabby, Schulze's Suzie, MTN State Sadie and Jug's Sparklin Raechel.. Most on the list go back to Jug or Lone Ranger some a combination of both..

Hey Dan! It's been a long time since I've been on this forum. How has everything been? Did you manage to get out for bear training season at all? I can't really do much with the dogs anymore with all nerve damage in my legs. I have a bear tag for this fall. Hoping the guys can put a bear up nice and close to a road or trail for me. I sure do miss trudging through those swamps after the dogs. Happy Hunting! Evan
