I have talk to some vets in my area some say they have a vaccine for Lyme but others vets say there isn’t one so who do u believe has anyone else used it and if so did it work

My

Understanding is the shot can help in prevention but doesn’t keep them from getting it or cure them if they have it.

They really are not sure that the vaccine really works from what my vet says he recommends a good flea and tick regament

My understanding is there are several strains of lymes. The vaccine is not effective against them all so therefore your dog can still get Lymes even if vaccinated.
Tick prevention program is best.

Been a vaccine for years....

I have vaccinated for Lymes for years. Had a situation last year about this time that made a believer out of me and my vet.

Long story and could be completely coincidence but 4 dogs that had years of lymes vaccinatoins.....no lymes. Newer dog that hadn't had vaccine....lymes. All dogs kennels at the same location, hunted in the same areas and therefore had the same potential exposure.

Could have been luck of the draw but vet retested all the dogs in case one had it but didn't show symptoms. All the dogs with multiple years of vaccinations were negative...

Lyme disease

Wher I live we have probably the highest concentration of Lyme disease per capita in the United states for people Massachusetts.I vaccinate my dogs every yr and give them Frontline Plus.My dogs have never had Lyme disease and I have been coonhunting 20yrs.Yes some dogs may get it dispite being vaccinated but the it's worth the little bit it cost every yr to help prevent exposure. There is always posts about tick disease on this site and how they have ruined dogs etc.No reason to mess around.

I did not want to post this in my original reply because I can't verify if it is a fact.
Supposedly the Lymes vaccine kills the spirochetes of Lymes positive dogs .
This keeps Lymes infected dogs symptoms from re occurring.Which of course can also cause dogs to test negative.

Lymes hides in dogs tissue and they can test negative after treatments of antibiotics but will forever have Lymes.

Some facts I have been able to verify is that Lymes vaccine is more costly then other vaccines. They are not 100% effective. Dogs have been known to actually get sick from them. There are many things experts still don't know about the disease. The disease, much like heart worms is spread by mosquitoes, is spread through ticks biting one infected animal. Carrying it in their gut and spreading it when biting another animal.

I vaccinate mine plus Advantix II. Many people around here don't trust the vaccine. I believe every little thing helps. Get them checked every year. Negative so far.
