Come too far off tree
What's best training technique to correct a dog that meets ya too far off tree? Isn't milling and doesn't come all the way to me (not close enough to switch him), and turns back around and goes right back, but just comes too far off to meet me. I'd rather not start nicking him with collar, but since I can't get my hands on him, considering it.
Sneak in on the dog with your light off, get as close as you can then run up a grab the dog telling it what a good job its doing and tie it. The point is to not give it a chance to meet you off the tree. But be careful not to pet and rub the dog while treeing you can cause other issues, save that for after you lead the dog away.
I would try tying him back and shooting out the coon and not let him near the coon. May not work but it will sure make some of them tighter tree dogs.
