Dog passed away

Hello all,

My son and I have a 6 year old female bluetick that all of a sudden passed away today. She was her normal self last night when I fed her, fine this morning, went to work, got home and went to feed and boom dead. Has anyone ever had this happen?

Had a healthy 3 year old male that had an aneurysm and a healthy 7 year old female had a GDV (twisted stomach).

I've had 3 female Walkers drop dead at about 16 months old. One out of Skuna River Lipper, one Mc Knights Rex and one by Rolling Hills Dan. All looked perfectly fat and healthy.

Sadly, yes. Dogs are subject to many of the same physical ailments as humans.

May have been the result of Gastric Torsion aka bloat.

This is extremely painful for the animal.

When you put her up after the hunt did you feed her dry dog food? If so did she gulp it down fast and then drink a bunch of water? If so, that well could have caused gastric torsion. The combination of dry food combined with a large amount of water and air from gulping it down can quickly turn into a crisis requiring immediate medical attention by a vet.

Not Arguing Just Our Experience

Usually a aneurysm or something of that nature that a young dog drops dead from have a vet check ia o ly way to tell. Not saying this isn't true but we have owned hounds for well over 70 yrs now and always feed them after the hunt and not a one has ever had this problem or died from it. My family been hunting registered hounds since 1942 a Bloodworth black and tan was first registerd hound my great papaw ever owned and been passed all the way down to me on how to raise and train a hound. Never had one die from being fed after hunting.
