Michael Haddon Dohoney
August 6, 1941 ~ September 18, 2024
Michael Haddon Dohoney, age 83, of Fredericksburg, IN, who left this world peacefully at his home on September 18, 2024. Michael was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose love for family and community defined his life.
Born on August 6, 1941, in Louisville, KY, Michael was the cherished son of Haddon and Louise (Perkins) Dohoney. He graduated from Shawnee High School in 1959 and later attended Florida Christian College. Michael dedicated 20 years of his life to American Synthetic Rubber Corporation before realizing his dream of farming. In 1966, he purchased his first farm in Harrison County, IN, and later acquired a farm in Washington County, where he earned the esteemed title of Master Farmer of the Year in 2019.
In April of 1994, Michael married his beloved wife, Donna (Colin) Dohoney, and together they built a beautiful life in Fredericksburg. Michael’s commitment to public service was evident during his 26 years as the Posey Township Trustee and Assessor, and he proudly served as a Democrat precinct committeeman for 30 years. His passion for agriculture extended to his involvement with the Washington County Cattleman’s Association.
Michael was also a passionate breeder and exhibitor of Treeing Walker Coon Hounds, achieving remarkable accolades including World Championships and multiple Hall of Fame entries. He was named Breeder of the Year in 1978 and received the Breeding-On Award in 1995. When he wasn't busy with his hounds, Michael loved hunting, fishing, and supporting his grandchildren in their many endeavors.
Michael is preceded in death by his loving parents and his devoted wife, Donna Marie Dohoney.
He is survived by his daughters, Karen (Danny) Libka, Kristin (Jason) Dohoney-Pilling, Kelly (Bill) Daggett, son Steven Dohoney, step-son John (Kelly) Colin, and his treasured grandchildren: Joshua Lewis, Jason Lewis, Jacob Pilling, Connor Daggett, Aaron Daggett, and Alyssa Daggett. He also leaves behind step-grandchildren Sydney and Rance Colin, and great-granddaughter Ella Lewis, all of whom brought him immense joy.
Visitation will be held from 10 AM to 2 PM on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Love Funeral Home in Palmyra, IN. Funeral services will take place on the same day at 2 PM at Love Funeral Home, followed by burial in Kays Chapel Cemetery in Fredericksburg, IN.
Michael's legacy of love, hard work, and devotion to family and community will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be profoundly missed.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Michael's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospitals at 501 St. Jude , Memphis TN 38105.
Mike was one of the good guys. He will be missed.

I always loved reading Mike's ads in the pages of Cooner and Bloodlines as a young fella growing up. Life has been wonderful for me and getting to know a lot of these men as I worked my way through the industry has been a dream come true.
He was nice man, a good man and hunted hard in his day doing his best to promote the Treeing Walker breed.
He seemed to always have a warm smile and solid handshake.
The Zepp family sends it prayers to his family and many friends.
