Whats A Top Hound Worth

Lets say you own the hound for 8 years.

The hound provides you with hundreds of Good Hunts.

The Hound provides you with many good friends

The hound provides you with countless hours of great conversation.

The hound provides you with a life time of good memeroys

The hound provides you with future generations of hounds that do the same things for you.

What would you say that Top hound was worth.

I Say Priceless
Jess

I would have to agree. Having Tex from the time he was just about 6 months old to almost 7.. nothing is going to replace it. And it may sound mushy to some, but he taught us a whole heck of a lot of what a hound should be like. He was an absolute natural and did pretty much everything we asked of him. He got outran sometimes, chased trash when he was young and messed up at times. But he was a dog with a whole lot of heart and we couldn't have priced him. We had been asked to a few time LOL.

Not only the memories, but in most cases you have time, blood, sweat, maybe some tears (of frustration also) put into that dog. Makes it hard to give up.

Money is just not worth some dogs in my eyes. I have a couple more in the kennel right now that money couldn't touch.

Jess

I have an 11 yr old that has given me years of pleasure and three wonderful litters, there is no price and no sale ever on this dog, she will live out her retirement in comfort...a big kennel, heated dog house, good chow, and a belly scratch every day!

A good hound dog will give his life for you. To return the favor is the least you can do.

I would have to agree with every one else. A good old hound is just like your best freind wouldnt trade them for the world. You might get mad a cuss them once in awhile but they are still there when you get done!

i could not put a price tag on such a hound . as you said , priceless , although many say " if the price is rite " or " money talks " , or " everything has its price " well , i would have to see it , then contemplate , then have to see more , then sleep on it , and one never knows , maybe , just maybe , if indeed the dollars were layed out in front of me to where i could touch them ... it would be kinda ruff ... it might sway me to grasp it and run. but then again , there money just might not be good enough ... good question jess , but when it comes down to brass tacks , dont know what i would do , i would hope i would do what was the rite thing . thinking of family and such ya know.... happy hunting

Its worth around 200-275$ for a dog as described

Posted by justpiddlin76 on 04-11-2007 05:51 PM:

worth

I would give about $800 for a healthy 8 year old dog to coon hunt with but most likely wouldnt buy a dog that old to run anything else with.

A whole bunch to have old Light Foot Cajun back at 8 years old. He was our best rig dog untill he was 13.

For a top bear hound 6500)))). Hate me if you want, but at five I sell them. One thing I cant stand to see is a dog get old. I tried it once, and a dog which led my pack for years, would come behind by a 1/4 mile or more, it killed me to see it happen and cant deal with that

As much as I love my dogs, I sell them at five, they are prime, value to the next man, and he can watch them get old, its just something, I cant deal with. to me, to see them age as a bear dog, is the biggest heart break in the world. remember speed kills.

a good

hound is like a good freand pricless and both are hard to find but i got more freands than coon dogs,

Posted by branch505 on 05-14-2007 06:28 AM:

depending on your relationship with the hound. If its one you trained since a pup and spent countless hours in the field with then there can not be a price on that pup. If its one you bought already trained and haven't spent time a whole lot of time then what you paid is what its worth.

I posted this so humter's would look at the many hours of enjoyment a good hound provides a hunter with. When you think of spending $500.00 or more to buy a good pup and have it shipped in think of what it would take to buy that hound from you after you spent the 8 years enjoying the hound.

I Say Priceless

IF I ........

OWN A HOUND THAT LONG AND HE OR SHE HAS PROVIDED ME WITH THAT MANY YEARS OF ENJOYMENT, THIS HOUND WILL NOT BE FOR SALE, NO MATTER THE AMOUNT OF MONEY THAT I AM OFFERED. HE OR SHE HAS EARNED THE RIGHT TO DIE AND BE BURIED AT MY HOUSE, THE SAME THAT I WOULD PROVIDE FOR ANY GOOD FRIEND.

A top hound is worth millions when you are trying to buy one and almost nothing if you are selling one.

Posted by pete on 06-16-2007 07:14 PM:

twice i turned down stupid money for a dog and it was dead a year later- i still dont think id have done different with either of those dogs--

since then i have sold a couple older dogs and was glad i did

they helped somebody --and they got hunted--

and i had a little extra money to invest in feed and gas-

so

number 1 is never for sale-- but number 2 better watch his step -

i sell a few young started dogs and a few dogs that are older and never goona be superstars but arent culls

my theory is that a dog thats not going to be bred shouldn't be taking a spot from one that might be--
keep rolling them over- 3$ gas-- i dont think theres any chance to make a profit-sometimes have to look at least losses- -- lol

Posted by Kennyog on 06-16-2007 10:21 PM:

Value

The value in a dog as you have decribed Hellcat is,you keep the dog till the day it dies. Then give it a honorable burial. And continue hunting and talking about the dog while listening to one of it's pups running a track, and waiting on it to tree.
