I have a Yadkin River female that is a bear dog that has Yadkin River Champ in her 3 generation ped 3 TIMES what to breed to

KONG !! But you will have a Hi IC, You should finish with a Lg. Boned Strong Pups with Good legs and Big Game Desire..

The best nose and tracking ability that I have hunted with in the Walker breed. These may not be the best colored dog's but I have hunted with several that were Good Hound's.

What to breed too!

If you are wanting to breed your Yadkin River bloodline, I have seen great results with the Sackett bloodline. I've been running bear with this bloodline, and I can say that if you have some Tuck blood in your hound they make great bear dogs. They are cold nosed die hard and very gritty hounds. I can say all this about Sackett, but you want to find something that works with your bloodline. That takes some heavy thinking on your part and some studing of you dogs bloodline. Depending on the background of your bloodline, you want to use the 3 in one combination. Guy Ormiston had a great article on this subject about 6-8 months ago. If you are interested, I can look into what issue it was. Just breeding a good bear dog female to a good bear dog male is not necessarily going to get you some good bear dog pups. How far back is Yadkin River Champ. Is it a grand father. If you are having or are seeing good results in your bloodline, you should stay with it. Uncle x Niece or Aunt x Nephew is about as close at I would make a cross. The three in one is having the prefered male/grand father three times in the back ground with a strong outcross. A strong outcross should be a proven reproducer. The three in one is suppose to a cross of a lifetime. There is also an older gentleman located in Central Michigan that has a wealth of knowledge about the Walker hounds. If you are interested I can give him a call and give him your number. Big Boned Hound!

Sorry Mr. Majestic Tree H. I know it was just your opinion, but in my opinion, Kong is way to big for a bear dog. He is a very good looking hound, and he appears to be built well for his size but, a smaller gritty package is in my opinion better. I'm asuming that you like Kong because of his size. You being a man that likes Majestic hounds which are large hounds. I checked out your website, and I must say that you do have some very nice looking hounds. I knew of a guy up here in the area of L'anse Michigan that use to run Majestic's on bear. I don't think he uses them on bear anymore. The point I'm trying to make is that Big=big target for a bear. I've seen dogs fight a bear up close, and bad things happen to gritty dogs that are big. Bad things can happen to smaller dogs too, but they are less likely to get hurt than larger dogs. There are exceptions. It's hard to convey and or express what one has a passion for on a message board. Hope you did not my comment the wrong way. I'm sure you hounds are everything that you expect. My expectations in a bear hound are very high.

I've just been seeing walkers getting smaller and to get back to a nice leggy hound is going to need breeding to a large male to get back to a nice 25" hound .
And I've been lucky and only had one of mine get romped on by a 550# Bear, he was nine months old and ended up with 2- 4" long tears on his side, when he climbed back up over the ledge the Bear had knocked him off of he went right back in but stood off about 4' the next time. He learned alittle respect for them Bear !!

And To Brett, If you have an Excell Spred Sheet Program, I will be happy to send you a Ten Generation + Walker Ped. that goes heavy in to Yadkin and House Breeding. It took me 6 days and it has over 2000 lines of entry.. Most is complete except for the "POP-UP" Walkers with no known Kin..

these are pups from Bo 5 weeks old . and 1 of him last year he is 10 now and that was the first time he has ever been caught. not his fault the bear was wounded .I am breeding Bo as much as I can to good females he has been a great hound and can still run .I have a son of his here that is 6 now that is just as good if not a little better . he will be bred as soon as i find the right female sorry i havnt gotten back to you sooner Ive been working out of town for the last 12 weeks . I am not Blowing smoke about this dog Bo he is the real deal ask anyone that has hunted with him. the best thing about him is he can reproduce himself and better. he doesnt have a bunch of big named dogs up close in his PED so alot of people will over look this hound But they are Making a mistake. the pups Im selling will not be sold in my area thats for sure. take care and good hunting to you . I believe you are right. If the right female was bred, like a smaller walker female with the Kong dog, you might get a few that are more leggy. But not too bulky.

The Treeing Walker standard is the smallest of all the breeds.
Males 22-27" and Females 20-25".
To me for big Game that is perfect. Two of our best dogs are just over Min. standard. We don't have alot or room or money, so it's hard on us to justify haulin a big dog around.

My male is 23" and 53lbs and we have a female that is 20 1/2" and 48lbs. No big dog around here will touch either of these dogs running. They have good leg, good bone, and look like they should in my opinion. We really put alot of emphasis on size. We want Small but Standard.

I've heard alot of nice things about Clover bred studs. Bozo bred has worked fine for me. I've known quite a few Lipper dogs and all of them were super nice dogs, tree dogs for sure, but I think tend to be warmer nosed, but can really drive a track. They say old Finley River stuff is good. But, just going by what I've heard.

I've had zero luck with anything Stylish Harry, Hayes, or Sackett bred. Everyone has been hot nosed and unaccurate. Some of them were very slow, some were built nice but just couldn't run a track at all, they tree good when they are there, but tree leaving is also common from what I've heard. I have a Sackett male, and he'll be my last.


I say go huntin with a few bear dogs around you, don't even look at it's pedigree, and chances are when you find a good bear dog that has everything you like, you'll have a chance of getting decent pups.

Hello Redwood. I have to agree with the smaller hounds for bear hunting. They also don't eat as much. My hounds run in that 45-55 lb range.

I have to disagree with ya on the Sackett bred dogs. It may just be the cross that was made, but the last part you mentioned is right on. Go hunting with the dogs around you. I would assume the dogs around you go back to the same blood and would be better crosses. Not all strong out crosses work well and once you find a good one it is hard to go somewhere else. I've had better luck line breeding than just picking a good one and crossing it with any female.

A lot of the hounds around here have Sackett blood for obvious reasons cause I'm located in Michigan.

I really like your site. Very nice appearance and has some of eveything. I would be very interested to see your hounds go. Looks like you had a great year last season. Good luck in the future.

There ya go. We just did a breeding a few weeks back too. Nothing fancy. Both the parents are top bear dogs, from a beardog litter, from grandparents out of a bear dog litters. Hope all works out for ya....

I just sold my Sackett bred male this weekend. Just wasn't my style. He was a out of Dizzy crossed on a Roc River Style/Rock River Stone female. To me that just wasn't a good crossing...
