Who took you on your first hunt?
Ok guys and gals,You didn't like my weather conditions post.So i'll try again.Who took you on your first hunt with the hounds? My first hunt was in north central Arkansas. My grandpa took me when i was 8 yrs.old.He had a big bluetick male.We treed a possum in a persimmon sapling and i was hooked from that moment on.
I think it had to have been my Momma that took me, before she owned any hounds, probably with one of my Aunts (just about everyone in my family runs hounds, man or woman, seriously) I'd say I went to bear trees long before I ever went cooning but could be wrong. I'm still way more of a Bear fan than anything. But I used to ride around on/in the box since I can remember, being "one of the hounds" LOL. I had to have been very young (3-5 years old)

I took myself
A friend of my older brother took us out.. Nick had lost his prized bird dog and we ran into this guy in the resturant in town. School was canceled due to snow and this guy didn't have anyone going with us so invited us along... Tex came home about 2 weeks later.. This guy gave us very very very valueble tools in the way of training dogs and stuff liked that. Once our dog started making races, he told us we were on our own. Best dang thing he ever done. Our dog had to learn to do it by himself and so did we.. We walked out a lot of bobcat tracks that winter
.
He got us started in some really great dogs. Answered questions whenever we had them and made us get out there and do it.. We would not be where we are today if it hadn't been for him.

Great stories!
Thanks for sharing your stories guys! Very interesting.Hope to hear some more.
Can't say I rember the first hunt I went on.......hunting was just a way of life in my family. I can rember the first game I bagged over dogs though. We were on a family hare hunt. Dogs made a good run & my grandpa handed me the scatter gun. After a couple of shots, I had taken my first hare.......Havn't ben right since. The passion of hounds grew every day from then on.
Nice topic
MI-Gunner
I can't remember my first hunt either , But it was my dad who took me. He was coonhunting before I was born. I do remember shooting out my first coon at 6 years old. The rug still hangs on my wall.

ill have to speak for my daughter
my daughter was 3 months old when she got to ride in the truck for her fist bear race, 5 months old when she got to see her first coon get shot and streached, 6 months old when me and her traped our fist beaver together, she was 7 months old when she watched me shoot my first coyote, 7 months old when she waited with the group while me and my buddie went into the swamp to kill my buds first bobcat and now shes a year old standing on the sideline while we nite hunt and water race our dogs, and grandma drew a bear tag this year so were hoping she will be 15 months old when she gets to watch her first bear fall.........she has never acted scared, when she sees the dogs getting loaded into the box she gets a smile from ear to ear, and when the gun goes off she get so excited you almost caint hold her........

my first hunt was with my dad. I remember when we used to go calling and the big bang from the shot gun or the flames from the bore of the rifle. It is something that will last a lifetime and now my son wants to go everytime and he is just about able to keep quiet long enough so that we can hunt.

AWESOME STORY!!
I have been hunting since I could ride on my grandpappy's back. I guess it was about my eight winter that he gave me my 1st hound a bluetick/b&t cross I named old Queen. She lived until she was 14 yr old and hunted the last night she was on this earth. So I have been hunting 49 yr and as long as I can put 1 foot in frount of the other I will hunt
