hog hunting question
are there any hog hunters here who just use bay dogs to corner and then kill with a gun or bow? not really into "catch" dogs and thinkin bout using some hounds for bay dogs
thanks
james
most of the people that i know have catch dogs, but i don't. what i do have is a stop dog. you also could look at getting some of the bigger bmc's, they tend to be a little more gritty and they will usually catch anything around 250. i got a bluetick that run and he lays teeth when the hog is caught. main thing is you would have to train your dogs on the gun. only other problem is hogs are smart. once they figure out that when you walk in they die, the others start running whenever you get close..
most guys trying to eradicate hogs do just that, but they only use or two bay dogs not big packs
You will kill more hogs with one good bay dog, than any other way. The more dogs on the ground, the longer the race.(it seems) I do not own a catchdog, but do have a mtn. cur and the jagdterriers. I also have a Lipper walker that is coming on strong.

tell you like this..my blue dog is young but he has a darn good nose on him. he runs with the old dogs and has a TON of hunt in him. i've hunted him from 8pm to 4am with a one hr break to change spots. and he hunted hard the whole time. i hunt with guys that have curs and catahoulas, they absolutely love it when he gets on a hog. you can hear him from about 1/2 a mile to a mile away. trying to talk one of them into breeding one of their females with him....lol.
