Large Black Panther

I hope someone can advise me - what to do . I have small animals & cannot catch, or get teh gun when needed! here's the story...please send this message to Murfreesboro, TN coon hunters club, and Lewisburg (surrounding area): Large black panther seen several times 9 miles North of Lewisburg, at Milltown Rd & Clark RD. This very large black cat is NOT intimidated by anything. It has come to my garbage cans, chased my donkeys & horses. Has been seen by several people on Clark Rd & Milltown Rd. I've contacted every Gov & state agency- they said, "kill it." I got no other help. Coon hunters beware. (I hope someone kills it soon-) as we know they are only out at night, usually in trees, although this one has been seen close to several homes. Rabies? hungery?

yup, kill it.... and dont fool yourself, they come out in daylight as well as night. if you know of any cat hunters in your area , have them bring in their dogs and tree it . however before kicking loose an entire box of dogs, go to the last place the cat was seen and take your best dog on a leash and get the track going in the right direction, have a buddy or two very close by with back up and when the track is in progress tail gate that lead dog. if this cat has been staying in one area mainly , the scent will be everywhere and dogs can get easily turned around , another reason for the leashing of the main dog, even the best of the best dogs can get confused if the scent is that powerfull . be like turning loose a pack of dogs in on a active bear feeder . wish i still had my cat and bear dogs, i would come get him myself for you . hope this helped you... have a good day...

The other people have a Rottweiller dog that weighs about 110 pounds. they said the cat was about 150-170 pounds. Seemed to be all lean muscle. My biggest problem is that I just moved here from west TN and built my home in the country close to the Duck River. Problem: I don't know anyone here! I'm only 5'2" and my shot gun is really heavy for me (female). The only other gun I have is a 38 pistol. The neighbors horse was attacked by the cat & left huge scatches from the horses shoulder to hind quarter! There were 4 big gashes & another that was not as deep, but the width was about 5-6 inches. I've been trying to learn about these cats online & it says the paw is only 3-4 inches wide-maybe that didn't include attack mode..? The panther ripped her face & head apart! I wish I had a coon hunter in my area to help. I did call a local gun shop & told him everything, call back tomorrow & he'd try to help. They are also an endangered sepcies!! So, I cannot kill it unless it is a threat, ha. I think not being able to go to my garbage can at night is enough threat. any ideas what type gun I should buy & it must have some type night vision or that red dot so I know exactly where I'm shooting. It also has to be lightweight, (I'm small) If I have to, I'll get my daughter I to hunt it. It's in the woods 50 ft behind my property.

Pictures of Panther

Oh I will get plenty of pictures!Maybe even stuff the thing. I have an idea... what if I take a big peice of meat, hand it from a tree about 7-8 ft up from a strong rope. then I would put sand around the area about 10 ft around. if it comes there, what? sit in the tree & shoot? But that way dogs, coyotys and other animals couldn't get it. What do you think of this idea? would this be a good thing to do? I cannot hire someone to track & kill it because I just found out it is an endangered species. No, I don't have any hunting dogs, just a lap dog. PLEASE keep giving me tips, I didn't even think of pictures. Linda

There are a ton of exotics loose anymore my guess is it's either a melanistic Jungle Cat/Chausie or a black leopard...there are a few good people raising exotics and a lot of retards and cash clowns that sell to anyone. It is especially rampant in the mid west and the 'group' of people that used to be big into the puppy mill (I mean the real puppy mills with the little dogs in rabbit hutches not the animal rights version of puppy mills which is anyone who breeds dogs...ever) are now into raising exotics as there are now less restrictions on exotics in those states than there is on dogs.
You should easily be able to bait it in with the set up you spoke of, it's quite possible it would be easy to live trap as well as it probably has spent some time in dog crates. It is not endangered it's an exotic, if it's causing problems please get rid of it...to bad you can't take out it's breeder and owner as well.
Some people think it is a God given right to treat animals as a cash commodity and not as fellow creatures that the same Lord created..pretty sad. Personally I don't think thats what he mean't when he said to be stewards of the earth.
I have watched a few very interesting documentaires on this lately I recommend 'The tiger next door' and 'Elephant in the living room'...while there are many good exotic owners I'm not sure what to do about the rest...

LOL , yes , trail cameras run on either c or d batteries , you also can get them to run on a solar panel wich is more money but less headache with changing out your batteries once a month or sooner depending on the traffic in the sight path of your camera. do not get a flash camera for this , get the infrared version, pics will be black and white at night and color during day. average camera is good up to 45 - 60 feet. they make some that go farther and you can also buy the moultry camera that sends the pics directly to your i-phone and home computer as soon as it has snapped the pic. i used to work for gander mountain and i sold many trail cameras. just remember, and this is especially true with electronics... you get what you pay for... these cameras run anywhere from 50.00 to 800.00 and higher, some of them will throw in the sd cards and batteries , majority of them are junk. to set up a camera for a cat , honestly, would be like trying to find a needle in a haystack unless it came to the same spot daily or say every other day or something . if it came to the same area consistantly you would need multiple cameras set in differant directions. honestly the best way to catch a big cat is with dogs and a handy little thing they call a bullet . as far as the threat part, well , same thing with snakes here, if it is threatening you , you can kill it if not you have to leave it be, well hate to burst the people who made that claim's bubble , but everyone i ever saw made me jump therefore being a threat. **** thing almost gave me a heart attack, so it dies, pretty simple . your constitutional right allows you to protect you and your property as you deem necasary . so do it , protect you and what is yours first and fore most . hope that helps you some.. have a good day

3 years a go my 50 acre rabbit pen where i train my beagles was being hunted by a predator as all my rabbits was being sucked up. i put 20 in one week but when i turned beagles in I got no jumps. I had a trapper friend come.There's lots of sand so seeing tracks are easy.He saw what he thought was the biggest bob cat he had ever seen in his life, so he baited set up some rubber leg hold traps as he could sale the cat fox or yote to houndsman. Well 3 days later he went tocheck in it was a panther. As he was trying to figure out how to place in a holding cage t with a noose pole it tried attacking him.He had no choice but to shoot it killing it.It was well over 100 pounds he said. After he got that cat out my way i was able to keep game in my running grounds.While the cat was around deer populations dropped way off, but after its removal in a couple years rebounded.A lot of live stock and pets showed up missing while the cat was in our area.It was a true nuisance.There have been others een here in eastern NC and also in our mountains though rare they do exist.

black pathers

they have been sited in upstate ny also,Crohgan area to Harissville area several people have seen them. I my self took a hound on a leash were one was spotted and let him follow it untill we got to a place where u could make the track out good . It was in the mud near a small creek. It was for shure a pather track 4.5 to 5. across and catty.Didnt have tracking collar with me was just checking with hound on leash.

yep there real the deer hunters here around the house have spotted thim before,and the old timers here call thim painter cats there very fast and smart and dont get noticed much.

theres the cincinnati bearcats also. im not saying theres no big black cats, jaguars etc, but they arent running around attacking peoples horses and raiding trash cans accross the us. someone would have killed one by now. when i see a picture of a dead one laying next to the "welcome to west virginia" road sign i will believe it.

well just like wolves we dont have thim here yet ,but there comeing havent seen one yet but i know it want be long they say the armidillos are here comeing from South Carolina but havent seen one yet and that came from Wild life patrol,and ive asked thim about certain wildlife and they dont want to talk about it .I believe wild life reserve turns allusef animals loose trying to repopulate and dont tell us everything.

Just contact the closest hunting an / or shooting club. You will have people loaning you cameras or setting them out for you. You will have more hunters than you want out there fighting over who gets to shoot it.
We have a what we call the cat farm here. They raise big cats and admitt a cougar escaped. Been several years ago and was never caught. There have been lots of sightings of them all around here. The game people say we don't have any but an old lady ran over one and killed it. It was in all the papers. That one was around 100 miles south. I know there is one that stays on one of the places I hunt a lot.
So I don't dought there are black lepards or what ever too.
Just get the hunters out there before it gets a kid.

armidillos

Not to completely change the topic here, but I dont see dillos till I head closer to the Ga/SC line. I've never seen any in the mid state area.

So if you're getting armidillos in NC, they have to be transplanting them. Although I can't figure why anyone would, its like a possum with body armor.
