EAR PROBLEMS ARE JUST THAT, THEY CAN BE REAL PROBLEMS. SOME DOGS ARE PRONE TO THEM AND SOME DOGS CAN REALLY NEVER GET OVER THEM. THE FIRST THING YOU HAVE TO DO IS DETERMINE WHAT THE PROBLEM IS ? IF YOU JUST HAVE DIRTY EARS YOU CAN CLEAN THEM OUT WITH HYDOROGEN PEROXIED. IF YOU HAVE DIRTY EARS BECAUSE OF BACTERIAL OR FUNGAL INFECTION YOU NEED TO GO TO THE VET AND LET HIM DIAGNOIS THE PROBLEM. HE CAN THEN SELL YOU THE PROPER MEDICATION. EAR INFECTIONS CAN BE REALLY NASTY IF YOU GO THE HOME REMEDY ROUTE THE DOG WILL PROBABLY HAVE THE PROBLEM FOR EVER. HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO GO THROUGH YOUR ENTIRE LIFE WITH AN EAR INFECTION? YOU WOULD NOT.

If your just looking for a cleaning solution.. Use rubbing alcohol and white vinegar.. a 50%-50% solution.. That's what I use to just routinely clean.. And was told by my vet to use that..

Black dog

I've had hounds for almost 40 yrs n have learn new things from others . I don't have a big ear problem n don't have hounds living with 1 so I don't have to wonder what it would b like to live my whole life with an ear infection. Just checking out home remedies I think I'm pretty knowledgeable bout how to raise n treat a hound. Sometimes the problem can b solved w/out a vet u just gotta no what ur doin.

Half the ear products out there contain alcohol and other stuff that aren't good for ears. Not to mention they are expensive. I do a lot of holistics and have for years. Here's my list o'crap for ears as there are LOTS of stuff out there...

Any fresh squeezed juice or oils that work as anti-inflamatories
Coconut oil (about $16 for a 1 lb jar, one TBS heated to about 85 deg F works like a charm for several dogs for maint cleaning)

Fresh squeeze aloe or cucumber juice (will use as a base when doing the whole kennel)
Emu/eucalypt/tea tree oil, mint oil, etc
Witchhazel is better than alcohol
Vinegar (helps ph levels)
olive oil

ESPECIALLY if you are in wet weather or swimming your dogs you will want to use the oils to help protect the ear cannal from water issues.

Ear mites, mineral oil base with camphor oil works great and is CHEAP. Can do over 50 rabbits on less than $12.

Usually chronic ear infections are signs of systemic issues. That will clear up w antibiotics for a while then come back. Changing diet and detoxing the dog's system clears that up. This is same as hot spots, yeast infections, and other symptoms the dog's digestive system is shot. Pro& prebiotics help (micro organisms not antibiotics) The other reason is generic defect of ear structure.

The skin in the ear cannal is very sensitive and care should be used not to dry it out. Natural anti inflamitory juices and oils work great. Not to mention they usually smell really good too.

You can get little bottles of the oils at any health food store, as with the coconut oil (which you can also use like boot grease on a cotton pad, the friction and heat from the ear will melt it into the skin). With the oils, a little goes a LONG ways! You only add a couple eye drops to your mix.

Hope this helps give you some ideas.

Just maintenace most anything will do. Just do it . Just mites, baby oil to suffocate is fine , allo , any oily stuff. I worked for a vet way back in "once apon a time" time and he had a mix for canker that I know had Iodine crystals he had to order from the pharmacy, Gentian Blue, and i think alchohol and hydrogen peroxide which don't sound right looking back, for the fiz. Anyway, he retired a long time and I decided to reconfigure the Potient. I called him up and ax for the recipe and he said to leave him alone , he had been retired for ten or fifteen years and the only thing he still remembered how to mix was Wild Turkey and Pepsi. So I did a mix to what I could remember looked and smelled right. It dang near burnt the dogs ears off.
I'll try a half cc of Ivermec and rub it in next time I need to try something.
