Rig Dog Training

I AM LOOKING FOR YOUR THOUGHTS & HOW YOU CORRECT YOUNG DOGS THAT ARE JUST STARTING TO RIG TRACKS.
I HAVE A YEAR OLD FEMALE THAT IS RIGGING TRACKS ON HER OWN. WHAT SHE IS RIGGING AT THIS POINT COULD BE ANYTHING THAT LAYS A FOOT DOWN IN THE FOREST. SHE IS ALSO BARKING WHEN OTHER DOGS OPEN.

GIVEN THIS SITUATION, HOW ARE YOU CORRECTING THE TRACKS WHICH ARE NOT BEAR ?

WHAT I HAVE BEEN DOING TO START WITH IS LETTING HER RIG WHAT EVER FOR THE PAST TWO WEEKS, HAVE NOT WANTED TO BREAK HER FROM RIGGING ALL TOGEATHER.

WHAT I HAVE DONE WITH OTHER DOGS IS TO GET THEM DOWN OFF THE BOX, AND WHILE ON A LEASH LET THEM SHOW ME THE TRACK. IF IT IS A BEAR PRAISE THEM UP IF IT IS NOT GIVE THEM A VERBAL SCOLDING AND MAYBE A SWITCH IF THEY ARE REPEAT OFFENDERS AND BULL HEADED.

WHAT IS THE REST OF THE HOUND DOG WORLD DOING ?

If your female is rigging trash obliviously while the other hounds arent? yell at her!!!!!!!!!!!!.my old female use to do that in the beginning while she rode in the back with my budys rig dog.she's still young so id let her keep rigging bears and as she gets older u may wanna yell at her more or better yet put a shocker on her when she rigs trash.takecare and goodluck.............

Training scents with drags! Lay some drags crossing the road with a variety of animals. ribbon the drag location roadside with ribbon.Junk being a certain color,Bear being another.This gives you a clear veiw of what she's doing,and a chance to correct.It's a cheap way to build a rig dog.Rigging with a straight dog is best but not always avalible......Start with the basics and then continue to challage him/her,make'n the tracks older and older.Ya get out of it what ya put into it.Soon you will get a idea if he/she is put'n it together.

It sounds like you are pretty much doing what a person needs to get that dog started. I put a young dog up with the old rig hounds after it's made a few bear trees, and has some idea what it's looking for. Then when the old dogs strike I put that young hound down with them right off the bat, and let them go to the track and start it with the veterans. But usually all my veteran and young dogs wear shock collars, and they learn to listen right from the get go.

If I'm hunting a client I make'em show me the goods so I can check it for trophy quality. If they rig and I can't find the track, and if I have a hunter who is after a large boar, I put one of my best rig dogs down and let him show me the track. If the track is large enough to kill, then I let that dog continue and send the rest. If not, I've been known to call that dog back and drive on looking for something larger. Believe it or not those experience hounds are not stupid, and if a young dog is rigging trash he will get warned, then beeped, then shocked at low levels and then what ever it takes to correct the problem.......
