Redbone World Hunt....

How many redbone people would support and participate in a Redbone World Hunt, similar to what the leopard world hunt is? The format would be for registered redbones only and would be a multi night elimination event where if you win your cast...you advance to the next round. Until you have a final cast which will hunt off to crown the best redbone the winner. I know we have several redbone hunts each year....but with the exception of $kc redbone days....there are none where it is redbone against redbone from start to finish in an elimination event that culminates with a winner who was the only dog to win every single cast it competed in. I think an event like this would be good for the breed and could really show which lines that are being bred for competition are headed in the right direction and which still need more work to catch up. We might even see some pleasure dogs steal the show from those competition lines I would think it would have to be a non sanctioned hunt with only redbones allowed to enter...and the rules would have to be decided upon as well. I think we could get some sponsorship for a hunt like this to make winning it and maybe even placing high in it worth the effort to come. Just wanted to get everyones thoughts on the idea. Redbone days is nice...but alot of times some of the better redbones get knocked out of contention by an off breed dog on friday and saturday...and its also a highest score hunt....not an elimination event.....so lets hear what you all think

I'll just say what was echoed when the BBCHA started their own World Hunt: "You guys can't win your own World hunt so you had to start your own." I don't believe that statement to be true but you'll hear it about 100 times.

Now the BBCHA has the Bluehound Showdown. It's an elimination style event with a $100 entry fee ran over 2 nights. Flora, IL has held it the last 2 years and it's a pretty good event. I know it's basically the same concept you're throwing out there but it keeps the name "World Hunt" (and the eventual criticism you'll get for having an all red world) out of it.

I personally think it would be neat if you could get it together.

Ya, the actual title or name of the hunt isn't as important as the other details...such as being an elimination event. I have to say that I like the way UKC has started hunting the final rounds off in some of the bigger hunts. It sucks to be eliminated from a big hunt without ever losing a cast....just because you didn't draw a good guide and the casts have to be narrowed down and your score doesn't make the cut. Famous Amos went all the way through the UKC world hunt without losing a cast....but got 5th place because although he won every cast....his score was 5th highest when they narrowed down the final four. Could he have been the 1st ukc world champion had he been allowed to hunt in the final cast? We will never know...but it seems wrong that a dog who never gets beat by another dog gets put out of the finals. Now they hunt it off for that spot in the final cast and that was a step in the right direction.
I know what the other breeds will say....but they say those things anyway...lol. This would be something for redbone people and redbone people only...to compare and contrast their own dogs without other breeds getting in the way of the results. Who knows....maybe it will help us identify the redbones who can go on to win the UKC world championship someday

Hunt

I have two problems with it , time and money. I think its a great idea. As for what other people say, I could care less. I know what I am hunting and what they can do. I have to say, my dogs do a better job than I do.

I think with a little work...we can put together a pretty good list of sponsors and make it worth coming to and competing in

good idea

I'd come just to see everybody and try my luck, I'd like to see it happen in the thick coon of IN or Illinois. 1 weekend event there as an elimination then bring it to say Oklahoma to hunt the finals. You could even put a few weeks in between the elimination and the final hunt. Thick coon elimination and thin rough hunting to crown the winner. That would be a hunt worth winning.

While a multi week end multi location hunt sounds good in theory....It would create hurdles that would probably make it impossible to pull off. I was thinking of a 2 night...possibly 3 night double round each night hunt in one location with a good coon population. ....a true elimination event that crowns a winner. In order to run it off in 2 nights...entries might have to be limited like they do in pro hunts so that every cast winner advances to the next round...regardless of score. The best dog according to the rules used advances to the next round....no dogs advance is stopped except by being beaten by another dog or scratched and in the case of a scratch....the next highest dog in the cast advances.

Redbone Shootout!

Shane;
Did you ever bother to read the guidelines I posted? It has many of the same things you are after, with exception that it is to reward the guys & gals that make an effort to promote our breed! Everyone that posted when I originally introduced it was all for it except one of the current prominent National board members! Imagine that! I think any hunt that would encourage American & National guys to come together would be worth while. Good Luck with it! John

I would like some input on this concept! The idea is to reward the guys & gals that promote their Redbones in the Major Hunts.
This could also work as the format for a Pup Shootout!
This qualifying would run from Jan. to Dec. of the current year To be hunted off the following Spring. Ex. 2011 to be hunted April 2012.
An example of the hunts to be used would be as follows:
1. Grand American
2. Winter Classic
3. Southern Redbone Days
4. Southeastern Walker Days
5. Bluetick Days
6. Walker Days
7. American Redbone Days
8. National Redbone Days
9. English Days
10. Black & Tan Days
11. Autumn Oaks
12. AKC World Hunt
13. PKC World Hunt- (Breed Leader)
14. UKC World Hunt-( Zones- High Scoring male & female
15. Battle Of The Breeds
16. Southern English Days
17. West Virginia State
18. Plot Days
19. Virginia State
20. St. Jude Benefit
21. U.S. Redbone Days

*This is just an example to get dogs from different parts of the country.

*All dogs must be a pd up member of either The American or The National Redbone Asc. to Qualify to participate

*High scoring *Dogs selected will be based on the following criteria!

*1st-High scoring Cast winner W/plus points.

*2nd, High scoring non-cast winner w/plus points

*Male & Female from the list of Major hunts would be chosen & sent an Invitation to participate.

*There would be a total of 40 dogs. 20 male, & 20 Female.

*The concept is to choose a neutral site based on where the majority of the dogs are from. Since there would only be 10 casts, it could be held most anywhere. Before the suggestions start, yes, some will have to drive farther than others so don't go there!

*A central location would be chosen, & the hunt would probably take place in late March, or early April. It will be warm enough that the snow will be gone in the midwest yet cool enough should Ky. Va. Tenn Mo. or so on is selected!

*When the participants arrive, they will receive Directions to their motel, meal vouchers, & $50-75 dollars to help defrey their traveling expenses.

*The participants will pay "NO" entry fee, "NO" motel bill, & will be provided 1 free meal Fri. & 2 free meals Sat.

*It would be Double Elimination! Everyone would hunt at least 2 rounds Fri. night.

*ALL CASTS WILL HAVE 2 NON-HUNTING JUDGES!

*The 1st 3 rounds, the males will hunt against the males, & the females against the females. Those advancing to Sat. night would hunt an early round to establish the top 2 males, & top 2 females to make up the final 4 & hunt late round to establish the Over-all SHOOT OUT CHAMPION & High scoring Opposite sex.

*My goal would be to pay a minimum of $2000.00 dollars to the over-all $1000.00 to 2nd. $500.00 to 3rd. & $250.00 to 4th.

*Spectators are welcome!

*If you would like to spectate a cast, you would be ask to pay a fee of $10.00. You would have a Marshall assigned to keep the gallery at a distance from the casts!

*Where else could you go & spend $30-$40 dollars & get to see all the potential Stud dogs you might want a pup out of go!

*All on the same weekend, head to head with the best of our breed!
*Interested in a pup & want to see the female go? What a perfect opportunity to see the top 20 females of our breed for that year go head to head!

*WHAT'S THE OLD SAYING? WHEN THE TAILGATE DROPS, THE BS STOPS!

*This is a great opportunity for the men & women that represented us all year long to gather at one place to be honored & have a chance to win money without having to dig down in your pockets! On the contrary! NO COST TO YOU AT ALL!

THE TIME FOR EXCUSES IS OVER! MAY THE CREAM RISE TO THE TOP! COME TO THE SHOOTOUT!!!!

Ya....I did bother to read what you wrote...but this is a different type of hunt. A dog has to "qualify" for your hunt....but does not for this one. I thought this one might appeal to the casual competition hunter or even pleasure hunters who may only make one or two hunts a year....as well as the die card competition hunters. To enter this hunt, you only have to show up or pre enter if there is a limit on entries....show proof that your dog is a registered redbone and pay your entry fee. It can be your very first competition hunt....no other wins required.

John if you can make your hunt happen...I will get qualified and show up.
I think I could organize the hunt I am talking about and make it happen...if enough people would enter.....thats why I am asking what people think about it. I want people to let me know if they would come and hunt in a hunt like this.

I would say have it in thin coon

Any dog can tree a coon in thick coon, have it in e-town type country where the world hunts gonna be,

That will separate the coondogs from the me tooing idiots

Make it happen!

Sad part is Shane, this is the very thing our Associations should be bending over backwards to make happen, but their not! We have all the funds we need & plenty of interest from the membership to try new things like we have both suggested, unfortunately it will probably have to happen without any assistance from our Associations because of lack of vision! Good Luck!

A fairly central location would make the hunt more successful.
Elizabethtown Ky is only 20 minutes from my moms house so my dogs now how to tree them thin coons down there.... But then again....this hunt is to identify and crown the best one as the winner, and any dog worthy of that win should be able to tree coons anywhere you cut them loose.

We have all the funds we need & plenty of interest from the membership to try new things like we have both suggested, unfortunately it will probably have to happen without any assistance from our Associations because of lack of vision! Good Luck!

I think it can happen with or without help from an association. I do think being sponsored by an established association would add credibility to a hunt like this...but I would think it would be looked at as risky....so a strong case would have to be made for it as well as a strong show of support and willingness of people to help pull it off. I was thinking of having a limit on entries of like 64 based on the model used for $kc pro hunts. That amount of dogs is quite manageable and would ensure that you could run the entire hunt in two nights with two rounds each night. I seriously doubt that the first few years would see anywhere near that number of entries....but it could grow into it if kept honest and fair.

because of low participation....I realize people hunt what they have to hunt....but most would choose not to drive that far to hunt in that kind of stuff. Would take most of the enjoyment out of it for them. Besides...wouldn't you and your dog enjoy a trip north to tree them easy golf coarse coons where the weather is cooler...no poison snakes and gators? Surely a southern ground pounder could used to treeing those tough southern coons could put it all over these lazy northern dogs who can't tree anything but these big fat corn fed coons that waddle up the first tree they come to Should be a cake walk for you southern boys

Jeff, thats why I would like to see it split up and held under 2 completly different hunting conditions.. That in its self would draw folks in to compete. Id have no problem hunting the Florida swamps in August, if it was held in two different extreme areas it would "Prove" a little more than if it was just in 1 area.

Maybe im wrong, for thinking ,and feeling the way i feel, and forgive me if i come across sounding critical....but, with all due respect ,,, I have hunted in about every state in the southeastern United States, and central,,,,and when you start getting north of ga.. It gets easier,,,it just does,,,,less off game, easier terrain, and 75 percent of the dogs that are train in the north look stupid in the south, and alot want even hunt, unless there digging, and running off game, it like haveing a field trial without a course,,,,,, i got a buddy down here that has a jack russel that can tree coons up there,, like popping pop corn, so please lets keep it real ... if a dog can come dog here and strike a coon and trail through this terrain, under these condisions,, remember now , ... worst environment imaginable,,,,,,and come up with the ringtail, then i say crown the dog....... Because ,,, why ????? Thats a coon dog...but anyway good luck with the hunt, and no offense intended...jmo

Thats the beauty of this type of hunt....anyone can organize it and hold it....all it takes is some money, sponsors, and hard work...oh and the willingness of enough people to show up and hunt in it wherever it is held. You two should get together on this and have one down there....I will come
I have taken my dogs to the deep south plenty of times....not my favorite place to hunt but I will come if you put the time, money, and hard work into putting on a hunt like this. Sounds like a good idea...count me in!

No disrespect...but if its so easy a jack russel terrier can do it up here....why would your dog not be able to win up here. Why is there a need to handicap almost every other dog that isn't from the southeast just so your dog has an advantage? Seems like a tough, experienced, coon tree'er like yours would have an advantage over every other dog no matter where you take him since he can tree coons in the toughest hunting on the planet....right? Why is it that the southern guys always think the northern dogs wont hunt in their country....but are afraid to bring their southern dogs up to our golf coarse woods and our fat waddle up the first tree they come to easy to tree coons. Where is the disadvantage for those southern ground pounders in all these easy northern coon?
