Think about this. 2nd crosses.

Not trying to start anything but. Not just one person but a few people have said the first cross is the best and you shouldn't cross the same two twice. Well what if the first cross was duds ? What if the second cross are some of the best ever. Could it work differently on some crosses?. Just a thought that run threw this scattered brain.

Never know

Tim
Some of us around here have had that disscussion that how sometimes a cross of two junky dogs make outstanding pups and to great dogs produce junk . In my scattered brain I always have believed that its like a box of chocalates you never know .

Tim,
I have been studying 2nd crosses ever since the early 90's. When I made the thread on repeat crosses I just wanted to compare first litters that produced a decent amount of good or great dogs and used the criteria of 2-3 titled dogs....but you could compare other things besides titles. To answer your question....in all the crosses I have studied I could never find a single verifiable case of any 2nd cross producing better than a first cross when using titles as criteria. In other words...never found a case where the first cross produced 0 titled dogs and the 2nd produced 2 or 3 titled dogs. You would think there would have to be a few cases and I am not saying there isn't....just that I couldnt find any and I have studied nearly a hundred and fifty crosses that were made more than once with the same dogs.
One also has to ask....if the first cross produced all duds....how many people would make the exact same cross again? Maybe it happens....when they make the 2nd cross before the first cross is old enough to produce any results. I can see that happening in some cases. If you or anyone does come across a case of a 2nd cross producing equal to or better (that is verifiable with titles...not opinions) I would very much like to hear about it so I can add that case to my file.....Shane
