Welcome to redbones lol i tried vinager and it worked but it takes more than one wash, but so did eveything else i tried. I eventually got the dayglo garmin collars cuz they hold up better, dont hold smell of anything, and are way easier to clean.

Yea, find a pig farmer and throw the collar in the pen with the pigs for a day, make sure the pen has not been cleaned out in the last 6 to 8 weeks. If you can find the collar after a day or so it will no longer smell like skunk.

skunk smell

One gallon hot water mix with 1/4 cup dawn dish washing liquid and one small bottle of peroxide. Mix well let sit on collars and dog for around ten minutes and rinse. You could mix less for just collars and equiptment, Jim.

Kelly is right this does work I hook a leash to it and the other end i hook to the hog fence much easier to find I suggest using your hunting buddy's leash that you mistook as yours when you got your pup out of the truck the night of the skunk encounter

You could buy any dog that has the word Sawblade somewhere in it's pedigree and just let them kill all the skunks in your hunting drops. This one works and I have references if you need them .Should only take about a week if you hunt every other night.

Hope you don't mind a little fun on this post.

I had a Redbone skunk dog a long time ago. When you unsnapped him, he went looking for a skunk. He once killed 5 in just 1 night. After he had killed all of the close ones in my hunting spots, he would go 1-2 miles just to find one. I was much younger and had a lot more patience back then.

Richard you had more patience than I would but any hard hunting dog on a full moon night can be tempted when they run across off game. I have hunted this pup through deer, hogs, and I know we had to have passed many skunks possoms and armodilos. But it finally must have found one it really liked. But I plan for that not to become a habit.

Hey Rick...
My German Shepherd killed every skunk around the place. Being a house dog I had to find a way to de-skunk him and in a hurry. Skunk spray contains theoles that can be destroyed by using the following:
1 Qt 3% hydrogen peroxide
1/4 cup baking soda
1 tsp. liquid soap
You just mix it up and soak your collar in it...shouldn't take long. I used it on Copper and it worked really well. I hate to say it...but it works on hounds too..LOL...I know from personal experience. My hounds killed two within a half of an hour of each other two years ago...They never bothered them after that...thankfully.
