Hunting in South Louisiana

This is Bell's Cypress Brake Soldier. Looks like he's the whole package, big mouth, super track dog, belly rubbin tree dog at 9 months old.

Nice

Nice Brent! Took my littermate to Soldier for the first time last night. He got gone with the dogs like he'd been doing it all his life...couldn't have asked for much more!

Brent, Soldier is looking real good and Bell and Reba are as fine as ever. I know how you fell when it comes to seeing Soldier putting it all together cause his brother Preacher is doing real good to. I think the cross you made is going to be one of those hard to beat crosses time will tell. Good luck with him!

Thanks

Thanks everyone for the good words. Yes John Cox looks like it was a great cross all the pups look to be doing well. Not sure how Jess Smith's pup is doing sent her a message on facebook but haven't heard back. By all past accounts he was doing well. It makes me think about looking for something to breed her to again. She should reproduce from another male the way she is bred. Don't know if I really want to do that yet. Yes John K. reba was bred but she got sick and lost her pups. The vet says she is good to go now and should be in heat anytime. The Jug dog gets as much credit for these pups as Bell, but as I said she should reproduce again the way she is bred from another male. I said I wasn't going to raise anymore pups but hate not to use these two females. Time has a way of making you forget how much trouble cleaning up behind a bunch of pups can be.

Those are some nice looking Leopards. I have a lot of respect for ya'll hunting in the Louisiana low lands that is some awful rough country!

Ranger 28117

Yes sir you are right it can get pretty rough here. No 25 pound coons that waddle up a tree here. The coons are rutting here now and one of the races we had that night was wide open for 2.5 miles in cutovers and head high palmettos. The next day the dogs ears were tattered and they could hardly walk, but by dark they were ready to go again. Many times we crawl or wade to the tree. You just have to love it!!!

I am a foothills boy myself but went to college down on the coast of NC. I was continually in water half way up my leg, cut overs so thick you had to crawl though with briars the size of ten penny nails it seemed like. Lol. It was a whole different world! Gotta be tough in that country!
