Board Meeting

The National Hound and Tree Dog Association (NHTDA) had its first board meeting today, where we made decisions on our first year’s initiatives. In the plan are the following, projects:

In an effort to start by helping our own, we will be launching the Houndsman Helping Houndsman webpage, that will drive charitable donations for fellow houndsmen/women and tree dog enthusiasts, in need. For more information, please go to: http://nhtda.org/index.php/about-nh...ping-houndsment

Also, to help our fellow youth sportsman we will now be offering a discounted Youth Membership (availability, starting later this week) for those 18 and under, at $12 per year. We will maintain 75% of the proceeds for an annual post-high school education, scholarship fund. This will be provided at the end of each year, through an essay application and can be used for college or trade school.

And with regards to anti-hunting propaganda and diminishing lands available for hunting, we are going to start to develop public service announcements, for national television and other publications, to combat the misinformation. This will require some additional funding, but we believe we can make good headway on this, yet this year.

All of this, of course, needs your support! Please check us out at: http://nhtda.org/

Gone are the days that you can find ample places to hunt, where someone hasn't been poisoned into beleiveing that we're dangerous or risky to have on their property. And the anti movment is gaining more and more momentum everyday. They're not coming to your house to take your dogs or guns, but they are affecting public opinion on a massive level. And because of misinformation, some of the anti's goals are getting support from fellow hunters and outdoorsman/women that just don't understand our sport! Long-term this will destroy our sport, short-term it's likely to become even more difficult and expensive to do what we love.

Which means what... if we want our youth to have a future in our sport, we need to do more than complain about it, and pick fights with one another. We need to organize and collaborate at the national level. State and breed associations, need to work with other state and breed associations on common goals. And how do you do that, without letting go of you local and primary objectives???

Simple... you keep doing what you're doing AND you work with a National Association, like the NHTDA, to work on the bigger more broad objectives!

If there are reservations with supporting such a group, we'd love to hear them???

We're a non-proft open to audit by the secretary of state and the IRS, so it's not like we're a "fly by night" outfit that's going to run away with your membership dollars. We're a group of houndsmen and tree dog owners, wanting to help our fellow sportsmen. BUT we'll struggle to help anyone, without the support of our fellow sportsmen.

So... for those of you that are saying to yourself, well that's a good idea, but let's see what they do. I'll tell you the answer right now... we won't be able to do much, if everyone is "waiting to see"!
