old jake passed on.

old jake finally passed on recently at over 15 years old. best plott dog and one of the best straight coon dogs ive ever seen. accurate as a calculator, can probly count slicks on one hand in over ten years i got to hunt with him.

this old dog is only reason decided to get my own dogs and helped start both minn and trix and gave both them jump start hunting, jake was perfect pup trainer. was very tight mouthed (also read as honest mouth) on track. if he opened would tree and with coon. some would say hot nosed but he wasnt just tight mouth and when opened would have coon in any weather condition.

jake wasnt hunted much last couple years but on several occassions when i was hunting near my buddies house all the sudden jake would open on same track my dogs were running and finish with them. one time i was walking through tall nasty weeds heading to tree and something flew past me, scaring the crap out of me! minute later would hear jake treeing. LOL.

couple pics of daytime coonin of jake i dug up. his strongest trait was sit back tree style. almost every tree where he sat back looking was exactly where coon was. unreal locating ability. he was best of the best solo or with company. gonna miss the old boy.

A nice tribute to what sounds like a very deserving hound. He sure had a good long career. You all were lucky to have him. Hope you find another just like him.

I love those old dogs that have been around the block a time or two and earned the respect of everyone that's been around them. And I'm not just talking about coondogs either...any kind of working dog.

Like Matt said, his accuracy was almost unreal and he didn't waste time babbling. Poor old fella was a good dog and you won't find too many more like him.
