Nicole, I thought your dogs where all heavily Jug bred? Aren't they out of Dan Minten's stock?

....our female isnt from him. Smokey has some jug. Jug appears only a few times in smokeys i think.

Smokie is all Jug bred and is Clark/Ganus front to back. As far as your female goes, Chug is one of the Johnny Reb Pretty Girl dogs so that makes her Jug bred as well. By any definition your pups are not "old style leopard curs". Smokie is actually a half brother to Shine. The vast majority of people wanting old style curs want nothing to do with Jug at all. Your pups are actually heavily line bred on Jug. Sounds to me like you got a whole pile of nicely bred American Leopard Hounds. You should be proud of that.....

there does not seem to be a ton of the older style dogs around anymore really, probably randy oller like was mentioned

Posted by curs12 on 09-30-2014 12:04 AM:

I would also think as much as Red martin and mcduffie and some of them hunted in wis that there would be some pockets of old style leps around there but who knows

Posted by Dan McDonough on 09-30-2014 05:51 AM:

There is an old style female just North of me about 20 minutes.

Randy, Nick and Mike have the heaviest. Some of the Okaw Valley dogs are around 20% Nimrod yet. You just have to dig around or have a friend that has a well stocked Pedwin program and there out there to find.

Give me a call if you need some help finding one.

If you want to look for some old leopards strains, Check out the first 3 places at the world hunt.

There are quite a few old lines still out there all you got to do is call around and do your homework. The thing thats rare is finding the line of blending the Old style Leps as some want to call them and the New style of Leps as even more folks like to call them thats the line I want cause from what I hear about some of the Old style and some of the New style that would be what I would want a mixture.

Guys, as Zach says they're just Dogs which is very true. In the beginning they were all a combination of different types of dogs mixed together (fact) and still are today in one way or another. The one main difference is some folks have stayed in one line and kept out other lines and which leads us to look at them as being pure but no line and no Breed is pure and never will be. the % might be smaller one way or the other but it's still there. But they were Leopard Curs which if you look it up you will see what that means (cur) and it won't say pure. So lets all just think of our Leopards as being Leopards and different lines and work together as Leopard followers and get past the rest of the little stuff. Feed what you like and respect other folks and feed what they like we don't all like the same lines which is a good thing.

I bet if folks would take the time to think about how it looks from the other side of the screen. They wouldn't post alot of this stuff on here. WE keep stuff stired up for no reason we all have done something or said something we shouldn't have so lets take the time to think and lets see how it all works out. As we grow older we should change but for some reason we don't when we were all little we used to act like some of us do now. So lets agree to disagree and move on.

It's sad when I have folks call me complaning about our Board being boreing and to me thats a good thing! But when they text me or call me and say have you read your all's board latley I know without looking something has fired someone up.

You know when I got my first Lepard Cur back in 89 I thought Leopards were just that Leopard Curs. But over the last 7 years I have found out there's a lot more to these Leopards the sad part is we the people who say we love these dogs and want it to grow push more folks away acting like we do at times. So as Mike Rogers says lets pick Leopard Folks up and stop beating each other up! I think it s a great thing we all don't like the same thing cause if we did we sure would be standing in some long lines waiting to get the one we want. Kinda like being at the fair waiting on the long Corndog!!!!!!!!! And Yes I still stand in that line!!!!

I know we all put on blinders at times and this past weekend I was at the hunt and I saw a little Leopard Female a guy had that was built and looks just like my first Leopard way back. But before meeting this guy in Person you couldn't have given me one out of his stuff and I had based that all off the stuff I had read over the last 5 or 6 years but I must say after seeing her it sure made me go hmmmmmmmmmm I think I might like some of that. I sure enjoyed our visit Archie and if you want to let your little female go to Okla give me a call!

And look...it starts again..... How sad that it keeps ending up with Jug being thrown under the bus. Fact is NOBODY really knows what their "purebred old style leopard" dogs are out of. A little behind the barn, switcharoo papers most likely happened with all breeds of dogs INCLUDING yours and others precious line of dogs put on a pedestal. The most purest dog found was the Golden at 87%.....now explain that.

And this is Jess Smith....I'm so fed up with this Cur vs Jug nonsense. The proof is in the pudding. Hunt what you like and if you don't like Jug dogs then for our benefit I hope those people don't ever have to feed one. We all just need to move on. It's a done deal. Jug was a registered American Leopard Hound (and Cur). Jug was inducted into the Hall of Fame. Nothings going to change it, quit kicking a dead dog already.

Well said John and Jess. Its time to stop all the bickering and bs. This breed will never grow as long as it goes on. Hunt what u want and show some respect to each other. Brandon

No bickering on this one. Mark and I get along really well. I usually try and park near him when I can make one of the hunts. I'm just poking him in the ribs. We like a different type of dog and we both know it. Mark is one of my favorites.

I'm with all of the above. Let's get back to having fun.

My offer still stands. It doesn't matter to me if I've got three litters of pups and half of the dog food to feed them...if someone calls me looking for a cur-type Leopard, I will try and help them find one.
