question?
Figured I might get a quick answer on this board. Can you still reg leps with NALC papers UKC?
Wellllll no. Unless I'm mistaken the nalc is a catahoula registry which is totally different from American leopard hounds which were previously know as American leopard curs. Similar but different breeds of dogs.

Thanks. I must have got mixed up. I thought I saw some pups the other day that were reg in both. Someone also told me that when they started taking leps in UKC that the NALC papers were required to register them. Guess he was mixed up too.
Well they needed ALCBA papers to be registered in ukc and I'm sure there are some folks that still register them both ways. It all can be kinda confusing lol. Good luck with your dogs!

I bet that's how the ones I saw were double registered. Thanks though it is confusing.
shane a lot of folks still call the Catahoula's [ leapord curs ] which they are a leopard colored cur dog , but should be called by their proper name of Catahoula cur . you can register your cats into ukc from your nalc papers .
I see the cats being called all sorts of different names and it is confusing , one facebook page is called the catahoula leopard hound page lol . so do you have a Catahoula or an American leopard [ cur ] hound ? if you have NALC papers you own a CATAHOULA CUR . I've got both the lep hounds and the cat curs myself .

Some of the older Leoaprd men can correct me if I get this wrong. I think that ffor a while there was a split in the breed and a Leopard Tree Dog was registered with NALC. This was some time ago. You just never know what may be still hiding out there in the hills. Wouldn't it be interesting to find a family that has a small pack of Leoaprds that hasn't had much outside breeding for a few decades. I'm sure there are some out there like that.
Gone is the day where you hear about men going out into the far back woods country for a week to look for exceptional dogs. Maybe with the oil wars, and the gas price coming down, someone will fan the same spark of imagination that bore this breed into the mainstream in the firstplace. If I wasn't raising young children I can guarantee it would be me.
Put me in an old truck with a wad of cash and a month to roam and I'll show you a coon dog that will change things. There laying around out there in nearly every state just waiting to be found. Heck, Nothern WI. is a great place to look and all I would need is a string of weekends but I'm on a different path right now that is just as interesting to me.

not in the nalc dan , but they do have treeing contest at the Catahoula comps , some cats tree pretty well mine don't lol they are great stock dogs and bay dogs but don't like looking up . I love a lep colored dog and wanted a tree dog as well is why I got me a lep hound .
I posted a link from the animal research foundation about the first registry's but I guess it got deleted for some reason . heck it was just a little history info .
