What traits do you look for in a pup? And what traits have you seen in some of your best dogs when they were pups? I have a two month old walker pup right now that I really have high hopes for. She is full of energy always wanting to get into stuff and using her nose a lot. She's wanted to chase the cats we have outside since she got big enough to run. They're used to dogs so no danger of them hurting her and ruining her I don't think. I'm hoping that won't hurt her by wanting to chase everything by sight. She seems to be smart as a tack already got her going in her kennel on command along with climbing up into a carrying crate. I've been working on getting her to sit, she's about to grasp that. Don't wanna put much pressure on her and burn her out though.

Brains, big ears, big noses, sqared of long muzzels, flat heads, black mouths and gums, dark eyes, three hairs coming out of the mole on the underside of the mouth, cowlicks on their shoulders and butt, large teeth, loud and musical mouths, sharp eyes and ears, good size, hard attitudes when pushed, naturally cold noses, thick coats, thick tails, balanced whisker growth, split colors without odd patches, flag tails, long backs, flexable spines, good leg extension, heavy necks, wide muzzels, big lips and dew claws.

I don't give much of a look at the things I want, I instead look hard at the things I DON'T want. Number one is shyness, shy pups are culls right out of the box. Now you have to be careful there because if the litter has never been handled or socialized, the whole litter may act shy when I fact they are just scared of something they never experienced before. But any pup that stands out from the litter as acting shy is a cull.
I also don't like overly aggressive acting pups. In my experience, it grows up with them.
Beyond that, I pick the purtiest and most outgoing. My buddy always picks the ugliest. Hs record is better than mine.

The best dog I have ever fed is also the ugliest dog I have ever fed. Ol Kate can be hard to look at in the daylight but at night she's a real beauty queen.
