Nice, get ready for some fun! The more often you challenge that little super brain the more you'll get out of that pup. It does all dogs good but the more capacity the dog has to use all of that good attention and that's the nice thing about these Leopards, they usually are a sharper student. Good luck with yours.

Your welcome Joel. The Leps seem to have more brains and personality than other coon dogs I've hunted. Keep that in mind while training and good luck. I'm curious about your pup. Please share more info about it.
Well there is grnt on top and bottom although parents hold no titles. Had lucky Luke and coats of fate htx in pedigree. She is a female with very little white on the front of her chest. She is not afraid of nothing. 7 weeks old.

I have a male pup that was out of one of Coat's last litters. He is doing extremely well. I also had the pleasure of hunting with Lucky Luke and both are solid coondogs and GRNITECH'S.
Yea that's awesome how old was the pup when you start breaking. I've read they break fairly easy.

Sorry Joel I'm not sure what you mean by breaking. Please elaborate. I can say that mine is very smart and a quick learner. I don't believe he is an exception . I believe that is part of why this breed is special among coon hounds. And I'm not saying there are not intellegent dogs in the other breeds just more common in this one.
OK well what I mean is to lead to load then at what age to show her a coon. Like I said before that the breed is suppose to be veryuch so would I start her on coon at a early age or normal.

I start training pups very early. Starting with basic obedience. I found mine to be very motivated by food (treats). I believe the biggest factor in training this breed is developing a tight bond with your pup. Once that bond is established they will do what you ask of them because they want to please you. They differ from other hounds in that they hunt for you. Most hounds hunt for themselves. As far as leading and loading mine was trained using treats as a reward at first and caught on quickly. It is still a process that takes some time. A heavy approach to training will likely not get you very far. This pup started hunting early. Starting with exploring the woods and going for walks. He would not mess with a hide like other pups I've trained which concerned me a little. I decided to show him a live squirrel first at 4 months and he treed it. I moved on to live coon with the same result being careful not to get him hurt. At 6 months he treed a wild squirrel. At 8 months I started taking him with other good coon dogs and by end of season he treed his first coon at 8 months (ahead of a good dog). He's been improving since. Now he's 13 months and doing great. Keep in mind they are all different. Gauge her interest and she will let you know when she's ready. I personally don't push a pup too much. Just be patient and let them develope at their own rate. Sorry for rambling on I got carried away. I hope somewhere in here is the answer you were looking for. 937-239-1206
Good luck with your pup, the leopard I have now kinda let me know when she was ready to be started. Having patience is the biggest thing. Try an post a picture of her if you can.
