Why do you hunt English ?

I am getting ready to start over. I have never owned an English dog, but I am becoming more interested in them. I have read a lot about them, and a couple of the guys I know who bear hunt use English dogs. I was just wondering what you like about them some of the traits some lines carry, and some of the negatives. Thanks in advance. Also what would be a good bloodline to start with if you was going to recommend one to someone?

The brotherhood and fellowship among the English enthusiast is second to none! The hounds may or may not be better than any other breed but they suit me. The English hound is a very diverse breed and within it you can find any characteristic or trait you so desire. I'm not going to tell you all English dogs are great or that it will be easy to find a hound that really suits you, but I can promise you that you will never find a better group of individuals to help you along the way in your pursuit of perfection.

Mr Huffman 1988, we welcome you to look the English breed over for a possible placement into your kennel. Mr. Rob Reid hit the nail on the head with his above post.

Not knowing what style/traits you like and are looking for, it would be difficult to give you direction on where to find those traits more consistently. However after hearing from you on what style you like, there are many knowledgable folks that can help point you in the right direction for narrowing your search for the style dog you are looking for.

For me personally, I have followed English hounds for the past 40 some years. Some strains hunt faster and deeper than others, some strains open their mouth quicker than others, some strains are heavier to tree than others, and then every once in a while you find one that does most everything to your satisfaction. Hopefully we can point you in the right direction for finding that dog.

Wishing you the best of luck!! And just let any of us know how we can help!!
