Who made the motion and in what business meeting to add the ballot to the yearbook? I am not sure this is the correct way to go about things........
How do we handle another member wanting to add a ballot to bring back long hair?
What if they purchase a page in our yearbook and choose to use it as a ballot?
I think doing things this way is opening a big can of worms.
Perry
Love this. Will make the voting so much easier, plus for all those who can't be present.

I am with Perry on this. would like to see when and what meeting it was voted on to do this.
So basically it doesn't matter to you guys what the opinion of the majority is? But the bylaws, but the bylaws...... Predictable

I just noticed over on the X-Breed post where it stated this:
UKC sent Letters out to all breed associations yesterday so we should be finding out soon and will post as soon as I have that information. This is for the year 2016 so what are we doing opening or closing them.
So we need to figure out what we're doing call the Board members or the President or VP and let them know how you vote!

Before you vote...
Remember guys it's not flinging the door wide open its just giving somebody who wants to try something different a path back. It's gonna take a lot of dedication and work to do it. 3 generations, minimum before a dog would be eligible to be single registered. Three generations, all out in the open, not behind the barn. If you haven't watched UKC's video on the xbred program you need to before you decide yes or no. This deal is a fair compromise for everybody in the breed. You may not like how another guy breeds but at least you'll know what he is doing and what he is mixing in. You'll be able to trace the dog's true ancestors and it will prevent the crooks and behind the barn breeder's from adding things to the breed that people are unaware of.

I have given a lot of thought to the Ballot compared to the Meeting vote here's one for you all to ponder lets say you do it by a ballot and that way theres no way to control the vote it would be a fair count now compare it to having it at the meeting all someone has to do is have friends show up and vote which ever way they want and it will be opened or closed depending on the number of who shows up. So the ballet system might be the way to go. But thats JMO

not saying a ballot system is a bad thing. Just don't think a couple people have the right to decide. I think it should of been proposed during an official meeting so everyone had the same opportunity to attend.
Next year should we do a ballot to bring back long hair?
ballots
I like the ballot idea. I can only go to a limited amount of larger hunts so this helps to hear everyone's opinion not the select few.

For those voting no.....
What are some of your concerns with the program that cause you to vote no. What things are you trying to prevent. Try to convince me to vote to keep the books closed. Show me the benefits of keeping the books closed. Share with us your reasoning. Why do you not want the books opened.

I see no reason to mix the 2 . UKC now has an X-breed program for those wishing to openly cross breed and they have all the benefits of the PR bred dogs as far as competing, sales etc. Plain and simple keep them separate. If I want a redbone or walker I will get one. If I want a mix breed I can get an x-breed. If I want I leopard I prefer a leopard.
I really believe the leopards have what is needed to improve internally. Unfortunately a lot of leopards are not in the public eye to the degree of a lot of the other breeds.
Tell me what is wrong with finding a leopard with what you need and using it?
If the leopards are in such bad shape why did you feel the need to choose and fix them?
You know the vote no matter how its done will be the same at least for now I don't see it getting opened anytime soon. I just don't see the numbers to make it happen as for the Ballot system going into effect its going to make the membership grow more then anything else folks have dropped out over the years cause they haven't been able to voice their ideals and this will let them be heard somewhat depending on whats on the ballot.
As for which meeting was it brought up at, and voted on to have it. I know of two different meeting it was brought up at. But in this case The Presdent has to let UKC know weather to open or close it for 2016. So it will be up to the info the President gets from the members for this coming year and the 2017 year it will be by the Ballot system.

What happens to the information that gets shared in an open forum like the meetings? It will be lost. Where do we use the ballot system? All the business or just certain topics? Who decides what topics. My own personal experience has been a good exchange of information in the discussion part of meetings. I have attended meetings thinking I knew exactly how I felt about a topic. In the meeting someone brings up a point I had never considered and my mind changes.
John,
Why are past members who have attended not showing up at the events now? Curious as to your thoughts.
I think the secret to growing membership is in strong leadership, hard work and keeping people connected. News letters, sectional hunts. fellowship events as well as competition. As you know I was heavily involved in the UKC change. It was not the success I envisioned. I saw it as open to the competition hunter as well as the pleasure hunters. I felt we were lacking a reliable registrar having had multiple ownership changes over the year. I felt we had little to no say so in the direction our breed was heading. We lacked a registrar we could work with. I feel with the decision being made this year by the officers for the open/closing of books for 2016 is a step back for me. I am not a rich man. I have family and a demanding job. I decided these dogs were important enough to me to attend events and take part first hand. A decision I do not regret. I made friends, saw a lot of dogs, hunted with owners and dogs that are leopard legends. Learned a lot and had a general good time. I am truly sorry for some of you that have never experienced a Leopard World hunt etc. At the rate we are going opportunities may be disappearing. Having said that the crowd of leopard people at he Leopard Days is nothing spectacular.
The last World hunt held at my club MCCHA had people from 13 states and Canada. Over 3-4 days we had 350-400 people visit. How would that compare with current Leopard Days and the World Leopard Hunt? We have some work to do!!
Perry
Perry I think I was at the 2009 you all held at your club and I didn't see that many folks there unless it was a different hunt. Shucks Perry we had 13 states represented, year before last when it was in Oklahoma.
As for this question: Why are past members who have attended not showing up at the events now? Curious as to your thoughts.
I would say the times have changed as well as some folks getting older and some things aren't as important as it used to be to some.
And I would say the main thing is changing over to UKC was a factor for some to be honest. But one of the things keeping it from growing is the back and forth going on between the old and the new folks coming into the breed. We all just need to get along and agree to disagree. But to stay in the dark and let 14 or so folks control the growth of the ALBA is wrong. But I agree we have a lot of work to do thats for sure!

John,
2009 that sounds right but as I get older just can't recall dates like I use to. You ain't that far behind. I am sure you are beginning to see what I mean.
As for the crowd, hmm.... 2 coon hunters recalling an event differently..... how rare is that.... lol....... must be the competition hunter in each of us!!
Remind me next time we run into each other, If 2009 is correct I got a couple stories from the 2007 hunt that will have you rolling!
Perry
I've been to some world hunts and I've been to some Leopard day hunts.I prefer the Leopard days hunt over the world hunt.I don't know why other people quit going to the hunts but I myself quit just because I got to much going on with my family life far as kids playing ball and I only get a certain amount of days off at work and I'd rather use them with my family right now. When my kids get older I'll probably start hitting some hunts again but till then I got more important stuff to do.I love the hunts and enjoy hunting and talking to everybody and Leopard days is a great hunt.
