What are the qualifications to register a X bred hound does both parents have to be registered

Posted by Okie Hunter on 03-04-2017 07:32 PM:

They are more of a force than you think and I look for a x-bred dog to win a world hunt in the next five years.

I have made three x-bred crosses on my English hounds this past year and I really like what I am seeing. The oldest litter had a pup place third at the Oklahoma Federation of Coon Hunters Winter Classic last weekend. Treed the only coon scored in the cast.

Another x-bred dog made the final four at the Grand American earlier this year and in PKC, the x-bred dogs were second in the number of hounds that made the finals in their world hunt second only to the Walker breed.

The only gripe I have is UKC doesn't give a high scoring male and female trophy to the high scoring x-breds at their sponsored hunts. Our money spends the same as the other breeds, so x-breds should be recognized with their wins at UKC's major events.

x bred is just that, two separate breeds bred to one another, it has been happening for years just, papers have been put on them as pr". I'm glad ukc has made it possible to hunt these dogs without having to go through all the false papers ect ect. I made a walker/bnt cross and I'm glad I did. registered the whole litter, just the same as a pr litter.
The dog I kept is doing a good job and it wont be long until the xbred will make there mark in ukc. My female (Penny as I call her) is 2yr old. She is qualified for 2017 world hunt, last weekend, has a 2nd place win (this weekend) and will be nt ch before too many hunts. I believe the breed assc. are the ones giving out the trophy and I don't know that there are or will be an assc. for xbred. I'm fine with that just enjoy getting to hunt in the hunts with a dog I raised and having the satisfaction of being able to win a cast every once in awhile.

i have a x-bred 11 month old male . english x walker . i made the cross myself out of 2 better than average hounds that were my own and had all the tools i require in a hound .mongo is as nice a young dog i have had in years . back to the basics for me breeding by matching traits best to best .i would like to see a x-bred assc. if only to have a voice in the rule changes and maybe even a x-bred r.q.e. for x-bred hounds only in the future like other breeds can . for now i guess we are just the redheaded step child .lol heaven forbid if some one hauled a x-bred dog all over the country in pursuit of the coveted purina race .for now s.s. and truck hunts are about all we got worth hunting for .i s.s.and d.n.a.tested my pup at 2 months old .just sent my u.k.c. papers in last week cause i see little reward hunting in u.k.c. hunts with my x-bred dog .even if a world hunt was won with a x-bred few would breed to him anyway.

xbred

Im just glad they have finally made it so we can register these dogs and track their pedigree. It seems very reasonable that when we know that a litter came from two different breeds of registered coonhounds and we have papers to follow, that the experimental breeder has the choice to produce and compete with the pure bred strains.

As far as the bench show goes maybe the reason they can't show is because there are no written standards for an xbred hound to meet. This makes it impossible for a judge to be able to compare the written standard to the dog they are judging. In a hunt it is ability traits only that are being judged.
I know that dogs that look like hounds can be xbred but I believe the majority of xbred dogs will come from known stock of two different breeds . This allows a person to study the pedigree of the pups and see the linage.

i can't speak for everyone and i will not disparage the other KC'S, I only hunt UKC for one reason only if I where to hunt the other
kc's I would never have time to hunt.evaluate and train young dogs,I for one am very happy UKC allowed the x-breed program, I can even win a cast once in awhile with my extra-trashy depression era sportsman hounds that do not get deep quick. even if UKC did not allow x-breeds I would still be coon hunting not for money, not for hides, not for trophies but just for the sound a pack of hounds make working together on a dark night like an ancient call to arms , a redneck symphony orchestra if you will.
