Hunting Alternatives

Hello,

I am new to this forum and new to hounds. I recently acquired a pair of hounds (Both UKC registered) from a neighbor who passed and was by all accounts seemingly a hound hoarder. The two I rehomed are a 2 year old female and 1 year old male. I have had them for a few months and they are all house trained etc. However, I am not a hunter and was wondering if there were any "events" or anything you all do with your hounds. I was thinking maybe dock jumping and bench shows. Would this be a good "job" for my dogs?

Any alternate activities would be greatly appreciated. I am NOT anti hunting I just don't know the first thing about training them, have no land to hunt for raccoon and likely wouldn't have the time needed to hunt or train them. My work schedule would also make it hard to hunt nights.

Most hounds are pretty athletic, I would think any of the dock jumping or agility contests would be good for them. Most hounds enjoy high energy type exercise. Keep us posted and good luck

Here is a link with some non-hunting activities for your dogs. In addition to dock jumping, lure course, agility and confirmation shows they also have field trials, swim races and bench shows strictly for coonhounds. .
