Training question

I have a 19 month old female that I recently bought. She belonged to a young kid so she really has never seen the woods much. I started hunting her but she wouldn’t go far so I decided to run her with an older dog I have that hunts deep. The older dog has always been a good honest dog and never ran offgame. Well tonight the older dog opened on track and ran a track that went into a fallen tree in a big thicket. Young dog followed in and I heard a crazy fight happening. To make long story, it was a possum. I did not shock either dog, just scolded them and led them away. I was afraid that if I did shock the young dog after the first time it showed some gameyness and grit, it would hurt things even more. Obviously I’m upset my older dog ran a possum but I’m equally upset my young dogs first good taste of fur was a possum. What do I do now?

Dog

Nothing, let's face it, what happened is over, nothing you can do about it now. I really would not be to concerned, 1 time will not make any dog a possum dog no more than 1 coon will make any dog a coon dog. Just be careful in the future. Dave

Things to remember.
A good dog will never bring a sorry dog up to his level.
A sorry dog will always bring a good dog down to his level.

never heard this ol wise tail but I hardly feel there is much value in it. If that where true than all dogs are me too dogs and all dogs pack hunt and nobody ever trained any of them.

Keep hunting. In 6 months you'll never know it happened.

I'd say that is solid!
