History

I hear so much about the new history of slavery. I wonder if that means that schools are now teaching that:

Slavery has been around since the very history of mankind. The oldest writings known mention slavery.

Slavery has always been Universal. Every country has practiced slavery.

America is the first country ever to outlaw slavery.

I was never taught this in my history classes.

You make some very good points here!!!

I don't know if we are the first country to outlaw slavery.

Even today, we still have it here in some fashion. Likely among the undocumented people. But, they still may be better off than they would be from where they come from.

Nobody talks about white slaves, but we've had that too. Think coal mines, steel mills, and company towns. They weren't technically owned (couldn't be bought and sold). Unions helped end this.

You will currently see this in Chinese restaurants. Some are legitimate. Others are owned by the Triad (Chinese Mafia).

Reparations talk is irritating. My ancestors weren't rich white slave owners. They had more in common with the slaves.
