Newbie rules question

I’ve only hunted once, there isn’t many hunters in my area to bounce questions off of, but this question is probably simply answered.

Scenario: all 4 dogs are struck in, I’m in for 100, my dog trees, 3 min, tree closed. We score tree, 225 to me. No other dog has treed.

I recast and my dog strikes, what does my dog strike in at? I would think 100 again because the rule says your strike position becomes available once your dog has been recast. But then it also says that that a dog striking in after a recast can’t be struck in in a higher position that is already being held. So I don’t know in my above scenario, does my dog strike in at 100 or at 25?

You would get next available strike points depending on who was stuck after you declared struck. Don’t matter if you tree and recut. If others were struck before tree was closed those dogs are still in for their strike points.

In the scenario I laid out, there are still three dogs struck in at 75,50,&25 when my tree is done being scored. When I recut, do we have have to call new strikes? Or are they still working on their initial strikes and I am the only one who has to strike in again?

I would be so much more interested in getting into competition hunting if there were no strike points.

Yes. All other dogs are struck in. You strike for the next available position.

And the next available position now is 100 again because it became available once I recut?

If there is a dog out there holding 25; you go back in for 25 when you re-strike. If I'm not mistaken, it clearly says you don't strike in over another..with a couple of exceptions.
Others can quote the rules better than I can and I'm not looking at a set to copy from at this moment.

You don't want the right answer. You want it your way. And eh... read the rules.

Thanks for telling me what was going on in my mind, I didn’t know. You could be a pal and help a new guy learn or you could show your 🍑

“Once a position has been scored it becomes available again.” Is directly from the rules. It seems to me we are awarding dogs for being the first to find a track. In my scenario the other three dogs have been working their same track since the beginning. My dog after being recut is now about to work a separate and new track and it seems that he should be award first place on this track. It’s hard to interpret the rules without seeing those rules in an hunt.

But it seems that we are awarding dogs for being in separate trees but treating all tracks as essentially one (I understand we can’t actually track which dogs are working what tracks).

I was a pal and helped you with my first comment.

This is why you will be struck for 25

Your dog strikes back in at 25. You only get 100 again if all other dogs have been handled and the track is considered closed or scored.

X2 - until the other dogs' strike points are scored (plus, minus, or circle) you only strike back in for 25. You have to considered strike points "pending" until treed (plus, minus, or circle), quit (i.e. dog comes into the cast not hunting anymore - minus), or lost (i.e. 6-minute rule - minus). In your situation, you'd only have struck back in for 100 if all 4 dogs treed on the same tree and were re-cut together, with yours striking back in first.

I think this seems odd to a "newbie" because of a white elephant that should be addressed. The sport is typically dogs going off in different directions trying to tree their own coon.... and it's using a set of rules built for a sport where a pack of dogs hunts together.

I can see why he would think his dog is entitled to 100. Unless he joined the other dogs, he went out and found his own track with no help. No different than first turnout.

You go back in for 25 most of these guys don’t know the rules or willing to help you. Some will help you but really don’t know the rules or how they are applied so getting wrong answers are not helping you. You can message me on here personally I would answer some questions for you.
