Flying squirrels

I got a pretty nice young dog that as of the last few weeks has been treeing flying squirrels like crazy iv even seen some in the trees anybody ever actually broke this habit without messin up a young dogs tree power

I hear a fresh road kill squirrel and a e collar in the yard does a pretty good job sometimes.

I start mine on squirrel, once you start giving them coon it takes care of its self. In the mean time make sure its not dens that have coon scent on them. Also this time of year you will tree coon in hickory trees getting those last few hanging nuts, so make sure you shine and know there is no coon. Don't use your squller if you think its a squirrel. Just lead them up and walk them away as far as you have to to make sure they don't go back. Don't talk to them just re-cut them. My dogs never really open on the ground on squirrel. There have been many times i've seen coon and squirrel in the same tree. I've also seen coon push squirrel out of dens.

He should be fine, as a young dog I wouldn't worry if it was opossum that would be a problem. Good luck to you.

Alot bigger problem than hunters relize

Squirrel are a problem, most don't realize it, some don't care.

Please elaborate Jason. I would say we have about the same population of squirrel as we do coon here. Followed by high deer and opossum volume. I could see it becoming an issue if you had little to no coon and a high squirrel population.

Flying squirrels

On a really stubborn pup it can be aggrevating and hard to break them. I do agree once they start back on coon it they normally go on but boy, when they're a quarter a mile in treed hard then you get close and poof they're gone. I know in our part of the world they tree them mostly in boisdark
