I’d dare say 98% of the “How” a hound runs and trees are determined genetically. It’s the owners/handlers job to do the rest.

I have seen people mess dogs up running in and shining around when a young dog sounds like it barks up instead of giving pup time to settle in or trail on time and time again. But i would say mostly hereditary.
