Consistency

I have been coon hunting for 65 years and I probably remember things better than they were, but in todays dogs I see dogs that are able to tree coon in a pretty classy manner lots of nights but what I don't see is consistency, night after night the same dog. I truly believe that there are more dogs that tree coon now than there were then but it's hard to find really consistent dogs. I am not bashing competition dogs or breeding to winners, I have a better chance of finding a pup that will tree coon now than I did 50 years ago but still hard to find a really consistent dog. What do we need to do to breed a dog that will be consistent and not loose the hunt and speed we have today.
