hey guys I was wondering what kind of dog food everyone is feeding that won't break the bank. I'm currently feeding pride, and my dogs do well on pride, but I have come to notice that their teeth are wearing down a little faster than what I think is normal and it's not just noticeable on one dog its noticeable of a couple including my 3-year-old Ausie. But other than that, they all do great on the feed as far as weight and coat color.

My older dogs ( 8&12) were having trouble crunching it. I started adding some hot water. I use 16 oz. hot water in 6 cups dog chow. Feed sucks up water in just a few minutes. Feed is still solid but not hard. Even the younger dogs like it that way.

I've been using Sportmix 26/18. It was recommended to me by the breeder of my most recent dog. It's a small, crunchy kibble so it's easy for them to eat and they like eating it. The dogs have lots of energy and shiny coats.

I’ve fed mainly Pride for 30+ years with tries of other dog food like Sportsmix.dog chow, Victoria, nutrina, value pac, etc. I recently switched to Diamond, which I have fed in the past too, mainly because they have now added probiotics and glucosamine in their 24 20 blend and it is just a little more expensive than the Pride. Dogs are looking good on it and coats seem shinier with a less stool to clean up.

I have fed sportsmix for many years but here recently a friend recommended Ranchers Choice and the price is lower that the dogs like it…waste is easy to clean on account it doesn't stick to the concrete

Inukshuk 26 and 30. Nutrient dense, quality is always good. I feed less, clean up less.

I always water down the dog's food when making up their dinner, especially with this food as it has a very low moisture content.

Super happy with the hounds, switched my short dogs to it and they have more coat and blow it quick, grow it back quicker.

kcal/kg and kcal/cups are important variables for determining cost. That's the amount of calories or what actually gets metabolized by the dog. These numbers are on the back of every bag of dog food.

if you know the weight of the bag, price of bag, calories per bag and per cup, and cups fed per day to maintain weight, then you can determine the cost per day per dog for each brand of food.

sometimes the higher cost bags of dog food actually cost the same or less than cheaper bags, solely because of the caloric value of the food. For example, a 44lb of purina dog chow at $28.99 is only a few cents cheaper per day for my dogs, than a 40lb bag of diamond naturals at $42.99. Because they require more cups/day of the lower calorie food. Cheap food isn't always cheap because of this, and that's a classic marketing tactic.

Some brands you can get much cheaper at wholesale prices if you can store a pallet of dog food. Inukshuk for example is roughly 40% cheaper per bag if you buy wholesale, making it somewhat competitive if you like that feed.

I like to feed Nutrena True High energy or Diamond Naturals extreme athlete. Depends on season.
