Seminar
Saturday – FOUNDATION FROM START TO FINISH: SUPPORTIVE PRACTICES AT ALL LEVELS (NO DOGS)

Understanding the importance of solid foundation training and its application to daily practice is paramount to success, particularly at the higher levels. This seminar will focus on what it means to build and achieve a solid foundation in Nose Work training and how to expand and support that learning at each respective level for both dogs and their handlers. Topics will include: training theory, training practices, strategies & tips, training progression guidelines, key exercises for success, handler skill development, hide placement and more.

Sunday – COMPLEXITIES OF HIDE PLACEMENT & ENVIRONMENTAL CHALLENGES IN SCENT WORK: PROGRESSIVE TRAINING TO ACHIEVE MASTERY THROUGH THE LEVELS (NO DOGS)

Often misunderstood, appropriate and thoughtful hide placement can be core to achieving success. Mindful application of hide placement can be a powerful tool in mastering a myriad of skills. Focus is on coupling the art of skillful hide placement with knowledgeable, intentional application of appropriate environmental challenges for success in all teams. There will be an emphasis on understanding odor and factors affecting the search. Other areas of focus will include level-appropriate hides, containment, converging odor issues, appropriate variation, height factors and more.

Monday - VIDEO REVIEW SESSIONS (15 Working Spots)

Dogs must be working at the NW2 Level or ready to NW2 type searches.

Video review topics will include examination of odor movement/patterns, handling errors and triumphs, recognizing handler influence on the dog, when to call alert, odor vs. no-odor (or no more odor) behavior, body language and behavior changes, Q&A and more. FULL WORKING SPOTS: Bring a dog and run them in 3- 4 video-taped searches which may be reviewed during the video review portion of the event. Includes a flash drive with your videos to keep. AUDITING SPOT: Leave your pups at home; we have lots of video to be reviewed!
